Want to know more about Moors for the Future and our work over 23 years to restore the peatlands of the Peak District and South Pennines? Formerly vast expanses of bare peat on our uplands are becoming diverse, vegetated landscapes that hold water on the hills, providing natural flood management, as well as homes for moorland birds and animals. On Wednesday 22 July, Partnership Manager Matt Scott-Campbell will be at Buxton International Festival, telling the fascinating story of how a partnership of organisations and communities has been working together to make this change come about.

Tickets are available now from Buxton International Festival https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/events/matt-scott-campbell-partnership-manager-moors-for-the-future-partnership/

There are many wonderful, unique species on healthy moorland. Check out the vibrant colours of this spectacular sundew, a carnivorous plant that traps and digests insects on its sticky, glandular leaves.

We’re thrilled to have been nominated for the CIEEM Phil Colebourn Award for the Conservation and Restoration of Irreplaceable Habitats for the Combs Moss Project. This project pioneered blended funding from a number of stakeholders – Environment Agency, Severn Trent, Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages and the Harris & Sheldon Group – to enhance the landscape of the plateau outside Buxton for biodiversity, water quality and natural flood management.

The CIEEM Phil Colebourn Award for the Conservation and Restoration of Irreplaceable Habitats promotes the protection and conservation of ancient woods, meadows, bogs and other irreplaceable habitats and recognises exceptional ecological projects dedicated to protecting and restoring those irreplaceable places such as ancient woodland, species-rich meadows, and blanket bogs, that cannot be recreated within a human lifetime.

The award will be presented later this month.

We're working in partnership with Yorkshire Water to increase biodiversity on Yorkshire moorland.

Yorkshire Water is funding a scientific study into the spread of one of moorland’s most dominant vegetation species, Molinia (or Purple Moor Grass). Molinia is a tough plant, which spreads fast and can crowd out other plant species. It becomes abundant very quickly, and can dry out in the wind, leaving areas of peatland dominated by Molinia susceptible to wildfire. We're researching ways to reduce its dominance and increase biodiversity.
