For many children and young people, the pandemic changed important parts of growing up. Some said they missed out on building friendships, learning in the classroom, or experiences that other year groups took for granted.

Thousands of people shared their experiences with the Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry's Let's Be Heard project. Their stories are helping shape lessons for the future.

Not everyone had the same remote learning experience.

Some young people said they had access to laptops, quiet study spaces and support at home. Others said they faced barriers that made learning much harder.

Thousands of people across Scotland shared what learning during the pandemic was really like, from the opportunities they gained to the challenges they faced.

Their experiences are now helping inform the Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry.

Do you remember trying to balance home-schooling, childcare, work and family life all at once?

Parents and carers across Scotland told the Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry about the pressures they faced during the pandemic, the challenges of supporting children's learning from home, and their concerns about children's development and wellbeing.

More than 12,500 people shared their experiences through our Let's Be Heard project, to help Scotland learn lessons for the future.

Thousands of parents, carers, early years and education professionals have shared their experiences of providing care and learning during the pandemic in a new publication by Let’s Be Heard, the Inquiry’s public participation project.

'Education and Childcare: Voices from Early Years and Education Professionals, and Parents' documents people's views on the pandemic's impacts on:
🟣 children's social and emotional development
🟣 increased verbal and physical abuse within schools
🟣 the challenges parents faced navigating new technology while juggling work and caring responsibilities

Minority ethnic business owners told the Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry of their specific pandemic experiences.

Some businesses said they were able to adapt and grow – winning new contracts and reaching new customers. Others felt they fell through the gaps entirely if they couldn’t access help to navigate grant and support applications.
