Watch the Palm Houses turn green again 🌴

In 2021, the plants were carefully removed for safekeeping while restoration work took place. Late last year, nearly 600 plants began their journey home.

From towering palms to delicate begonias, the collection is thriving and ready to be enjoyed once again now the Palm Houses are reopen.

Then and now in the Garden 📸

With just a few days to go until our historic Palm Houses reopen on Friday 2 October, we've stepped back in time to recreate archive photos of Garden staff from the early 1900s.

More than a century later, this new generation of horticulturists and scientists is ready to care for and research the nearly 600 plant specimens which have returned to the Palm Houses 🌴

The wait is almost over. In one week, our iconic Palm Houses reopen to the public after five years of careful restoration. In numbers:

- All 5,750 panes of glass have been replaced
- 600 m² of ironwork has been restored or replaced
- 500 m² of sandstone repairs have been carried out
- Nearly 600 precious plant specimens from around the world have returned home
