Yesterday, the official launch of the Knife Angel took place in Leith, with an opening ceremony attended by Council Leader Jane Meagher, Lord Provost Robert Aldridge, Chief inspector Kieran Dougal and members of the local community.

The Knife Angel has arrived in Edinburgh and will be on display at Kirkgate, at the bottom of Leith Walk, until Sunday 27 September.

Created by artist Alfie Bradley and the British Ironworks Centre, the Knife Angel is made from around 100,000 knives and blades surrendered through police forces across the country.

The sculpture stands as a powerful reminder of the impact violence can have on individuals, families and communities, while acting as a catalyst for social change.

To mark the official launch, an opening ceremony took place today, with the Council Leader Jane Meagher, Lord Provost Robert Aldridge, and community representatives in attendance.

Today, our Prevention, Intervention and Partnerships department, alongside Edinburgh and national Retail Crime Task Force officers, met with our partners at retailers Against crime at St James Quarter.

We discussed the impact of retail crime on workers, businesses and our communities, as well as the tools and partnership work available to tackle it.

Working together is key to preventing violence and keeping communities safe.

This work supports our violence prevention and awareness activity during the Knife Angel's residency in Edinburgh this September.

Officers are releasing CCTV images of a woman they wish to speak to as part of an ongoing investigation into a serious assault which occurred within The Pitt, West Shore Road, Edinburgh around 1am on Saturday, 27 June, 2026.

The female pictured is between 25-35 years old, white, with long blonde hair, tattooed arms and legs. She was wearing a white vest top, dark coloured shorts, white trainers and white socks pulled up.

Detective Constable Lindsay Johnston said: “Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2259 of 26 June, 2026. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.”

Ehsan was last seen around 5am on Monday, 31 August, 2026, in the vicinity of Edinburgh Waverley Train Station.

Officers are appealing for the public’s help to trace 31-year-old Ehsan Asadi, who has been reported missing from Glasgow.

Ehsan was last seen around 5am on Monday, 31 August, 2026, in the vicinity of Edinburgh Waverley Train Station.

When last seen, he was wearing a grey hooded jumper, a black body warmer and black trousers. Ehsan is described as 5ft 7ins, slim build, with black balding hair.

Inspector Collier said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace Ehsan and as time passes we are growing concerned for his welfare.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have seen him since Monday morning, or may know where he is to contact us.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1201 of Monday, 31 August, 2026.”

🔪 The Knife Angel has arrived in Edinburgh.

The Knife Angel travelled all the way to Edinburgh and was installed yesterday at The Kirkgate in Leith.

A huge thank you to Hiab Hire Scotland for safely transporting and installing the sculpture, and to our partners at The City of Edinburgh Council and Places for People for helping bring the Knife Angel to our city.

The Knife Angel is a powerful symbol in the fight against violent crime. Created from thousands of surrendered and seized knives, the sculpture carries a message of love, hope and remembrance, including messages engraved by families who have lost loved ones to knife crime.

During her time in Edinburgh, the Knife Angel will be at the heart of a programme of events involving schools, businesses, community groups and local organisations. These events will help raise awareness of the dangers of carrying knives, the devastating impact of violence and the positive choices we can all make to help keep our communities safe.

Our School Link Officer for Royal High School held an assembly to raise awareness on the impacts of knife crime.

Edinburgh is proud to host the Knife Angel as part of its national tour to raise awareness of violence and knife crime. It has travelled to over 50 cities and towns across the United Kingdom and will be displayed at the Kirkgate at the bottom of Leith Walk from 1 September to 27 September 2026.

While the Knife Angel is in Edinburgh, we will be working with partners, schools, businesses and communities to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying knives and the impact of violence.

Last week, our North West CPT attended the Granton Community Gardeners event, where officers had the opportunity to meet local residents and provide some useful crime prevention advice.

As part of the visit, officers offered free bike security marking, helping to deter thieves and making it easier for stolen bikes to be identified and return to their rightful owners.

Officers in Edinburgh are appealing for the public’s help to trace 28-year-old Kamil Lebek, who has been reported missing in the city.

Kamil was last seen in the Marine Drive area on Tuesday, 25 August, 2026. He is known to frequent Edinburgh and Glasgow city centres.

He is described as white, around 5ft 11ins tall, of average build, with short blonde hair and a short beard. He occasionally wears glasses and was last seen wearing a blue jacket with a small tear on it, dark trousers and black shoes.

Constable Ewan Mitchell said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned for Kamil’s welfare and enquiries are ongoing to trace him.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen him to contact us.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 2906 of 27 August, 2026.”
