Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Rural Affairs Gillian Martin visited Oxton Community Shop in the Scottish Borders to meet volunteers and hear how the Scottish Government’s Community-Led Local Development programme has supported the community to build and run their own shop.

As the only shop in the village, it provides an essential local service, acts as a hub for social interaction and is a great example of community wealth building and resilience in action.

As part of the visit, the Cabinet Secretary heard from members of the community about how our Programme for Government commitment to establish a Last Provider Fund could help support the sustainability of rural communities such as Oxton.

The Scottish Government is determined to support our rural communities to thrive, and the Community-Led Local Development programme is one of the key ways we do this.
