The Royal Regiment of Scotland will be given the Freedom of Inverclyde following a public parade and ceremony on Saturday 5 September.

The honour was agreed by councillors last year to recognise the service, dedication and sacrifice of the Regiment and their strong historical ties with Inverclyde.

Around 100 serving personnel will march along the Esplanade to Battery Park - alongside their popular Shetland Pony mascot Corporal Cruachan IV, Band SCOTS and 2 SCOTS Pipes, Drums and Bugles - where the service will take place. At the park Provost Drew McKenzie will officially present the Regiment with the Freedom of Inverclyde scroll.

The Royal Regiment of Scotland is the first ever to receive the Freedom of Inverclyde. Members of the public are welcome to attend the event.

Pipers have been an integral part of Scottish regiments for centuries, leading troops into battle and boosting morale with their distinctive sound.

This performance features ‘Wee Murdy’s Hornpipe’, a tune composed and played by Cpl Jamie Killorn as a tribute to his mother. It’s is one of the many pieces in our Regimental Pipe Book inspired by the people and stories of the Regiment.

If you’re attending next month, don’t miss the chance to hear our talented pipers perform live. You can also pre-order Volume 1 of our Regimental Pipe Book to collect in person through this link - https://tinyurl.com/defp69s7

A few more moments from a historic day for The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

On 1 July, soldiers from across the Regiment gathered in Edinburgh to Exercise the Freedom of the City before assembling in Princes Street Gardens for the unveiling of the Regiment’s new bronze lion statue by His Majesty The King, Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Having Jocks from all SCOTS battalions represented on parade is a rare and proud occasion, making the day especially memorable as we marked 20 years since the Regiment’s formation.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this milestone so memorable, and to all those who have served and continue to serve.

Portobello Beach became the latest training ground for soldiers from 2 SCOTS, who took part in Battle PT to develop the resilience and teamwork required of an infantry soldier.

Training across different terrain is essential to preparing for operations anywhere in the world. From the forests of Estonia to the shoreline of Edinburgh, SCOTS soldiers must be ready to meet every challenge.

Yesterday, His Majesty The King, Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, unveiled a new bronze statue in Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens to mark the Regiment's 20th anniversary.

Designed by Edinburgh sculptor , the reclining lion stands guard over the Regiment's cap badge. The statue sits on a plinth made up of six cast sections, symbolising the unity of the six historic Scottish infantry regiments that came together to form SCOTS in 2006.

The day also saw SCOTS proudly exercise the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh, marching through the capital with drums beating, bayonets fixed and colours flying.

As we celebrate two decades of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, we honour all those who have served, continue to serve, and the enduring bond between the Regiment and the people of Scotland.

Last night, the Jocks were rehearsing in Princes Street Gardens ahead of our 20th anniversary celebrations. Tomorrow we proudly unveil a new statue honouring two decades since the Regiment's formation.

The statue will recognise the dedication of SCOTS soldiers, past and present, and the enduring legacy they uphold. We will also be Exercising the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh with a parade starting at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The parade will march up the Royal Mile and finish at Princes Street Gardens.

Today on Armed Forces Day, we take a moment to reflect on the brave individuals in the Armed Forces community, from serving personnel and veterans to Service families and cadets.

As we mark 20 years of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, we are especially proud of the soldiers of our six battalions, past and present, whose courage and dedication have shaped the Regiment's proud legacy and continue to uphold its values today.

We thank you for your service.

Last Saturday, Balaklava Company (5 SCOTS) received the Freedom of the City of Dundee on behalf of The Royal Regiment of Scotland - one of the city's highest civic honours.

Among those accepting the honour was 19-year-old Private Ayden Kennedy from Lochee, who marched alongside his battalion.

The occasion capped off a busy period for Pte Kennedy, who has just completed training in Galloway Forest and Royal Guard duties in London.

Reflecting on the day, he said: "I left Dundee less than a year ago to join The Royal Regiment of Scotland, and it’s been an incredible experience so far. But getting to come home and receive this honour with my family watching is unreal."
