🌍 Scottish Global Dialogues with Martin Griffiths 🌍

This afternoon, I had the privilege of attending the Scottish Global Dialogues event and listening to Martin Griffiths, former UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, deliver a powerful speech. Afterward I had the opportunity to speak with this remarkable man, and his insights left a lasting impression on me.

Martin stressed the urgent need not only to support those in need but also to train more people in conflict communication. In a world where issues like armed conflicts, coups, and persecution only worsen the already dire conditions of inequality, poverty, and lack of basic services, it’s shocking to realise how often humanitarian affairs are overlooked. With 300 million people in desperate need, it’s alarming that there isn’t enough funding to help even half of them, while global defense spending reaches $2.44 trillion.

Let humanity speak louder than weapons. We must shift our priorities to protect and uplift those most vulnerable. 💔

A heartfelt thank you to Mark Muller Stuart KC and Beyond Borders Scotland organising this crucial event.

What’s always a part of business with me is a deep connection to the arts world. One evening of our ministerial visit of Bundesminister Martin Kocher to Scotland had to be dedicated to music. A heartfelt thank you to Francesca Hegyi the CEO of Edinburgh International Festival and Katherine Planas for the warm welcome and the outstanding concert with the Osesp - Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo.

The Edinburgh International Festival, founded by the Austrian Rudolf Bing in 1947, continues to celebrate its rich heritage of bringing together world-class performers and audiences from around the globe. It’s always inspiring to witness the festival’s dedication to the arts and its role in enriching cultural exchanges.

Looking forward to more wonderful experiences with the Edinburgh International Festival!

I had the great pleasure of visiting Glenkinchie Distillery Diageo with our delegation that included Bundesminister Martin Kocher, Federal Minister of Labour and Economy of Austria, Ambassador Bernhard Wrabetz, Trade Commissioner Michael Mueller and Benedikt Charvat. We were warmly welcomed by East Lothian Provost John McMillan, who provided valuable insights into the economic strengths and opportunities within the region.

Thank you, John, for your hospitality🤝and to Glenkinchie for an unforgettable experience showcasing the rich heritage of whisky-making in East Lothian. It's clear that East Lothian holds a strong position in the Scottish economy, and I'm excited about the potential for further collaboration between Austria 🇦🇹 and Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🤝✨
