The revitalisation of Fort Road Recreation Ground is breathing new life into the park - here are the latest updates!

Shakespeare Hall has reopened, with much-loved Pebbles Daycare Newhaven based on the first floor.

Expressions of interest in the ground floor café and community space, are currently being reviewed.

Two unique new benches, which feature competition-winning designs by Alfie Sinclair, a Year 9 student at Seahaven Academy, and the collaborative duo of Newhaven artists Diets Verschuren and Caroline Marsland, have been installed. Their exceptional designs were chosen from almost 100 entries in a competition run in partnership with Hospitable Environment.

The modernised public toilets will be open in the coming days.

The Cricket Pavilion has received a superb upgrade with complete external re-cladding. The internal fit-out is now underway, managed directly by Newhaven Cricket Club. This complements the newly installed artificial cricket wicket, ensuring top-tier facilities for local teams.

A new outdoor gym will be ready soon with the new play area following later this year. We had hoped the play area would be open for the summer and we’re sorry about the delay. Having carried out some workshops we are working with the designers to provide the best play experience in the space we have available.

The community garden has been a hive of activity, and we would like to say a huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers who have worked really hard through the recent hot weather to get the garden to its current condition. Please remember, these volunteers are local people who give up their time, rather than council officers.

The group are looking for more volunteers, so speak to them if you would like to get involved in this wonder community project!
Biodiversity has received a huge boost due to new landscaping across the park, along with the installation of new bird and bat boxes.
