Picked up this beauty recently - Nervous Breakdown - Album Covers by Raymond Pettibon. I'm a sucker for his artwork so I'm fully in love with this book.

"The definitive collection of Raymond Pettibon’s album covers, uniting art and music in one powerful visual history. Featuring work for Black Flag, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters, Iggy Pop, Lana Del Rey, and many others, this volume traces the artist’s bold influence on alternative culture from the late 1970s to today.

Throughout his decades-long career, Raymond Pettibon has remained deeply engaged with the world around him, whether through biting political satire of American geopolitics or poetic meditations on surfing and baseball. Pettibon’s aesthetic and political sensibilities originated in the punk scene that thrived in Southern California, the artist’s first home, in the late 1970s and 1980s—evidenced in his collaborations with bands such as the Minutemen, Sonic Youth, and Saccharine Trust. Highlighting an incredible bit of ephemera from our shelves. This is the accompanying guide to the Peter Hujar - Eyes Open in the Dark exhibition that was held at Raven Row last year.

The exhibition was perfect and this guide matched the energy. It includes a collection of short pieces including a letter from Peter Thek to Hujar, a Village Voice in memoriam article by Vince Aletti and an essay on Hujar's portrayal of urban landscapes in his work. This is available for everyone who visits the library to have a sift through 🖤

Ps. Looking forward to visiting Raven Row in a few weeks time to see the new exhibition STURTEVANT: Eat the Outside to Light Up the Inside.

A new book for the library today - Bad Blood: An Illustrated Guide to Psycho Cinema. Another addition to our ever grown collection from Creation Books. We'll get the rest collected and added to the library over the next few months.

This library wouldn't exist without your support. That means we'd like your input and advice on a new idea 🖤

Firstly, we're going to introduce gift memberships so you can treat your loved ones. We get asked a lot but have a really awkward process to make it happen. This will soon become a quick and simple click & buy situation soon.

However, we'd like to be able to offer this to our book peers, creative projects, bookshops, etc the opportunity to sell our membership and keep 50% (£10) for everyone gift membership sold. You won't have to buy them up front. Also, you're committed to no pushy sales patter, you're not expected to market them and no targets/pressure from us. You sign up and move at your own pace.

Why would we do this? It's been a crappy year all round for creative projects - our art hubs are closing, no funding, etc. We want to help and thought a profit share might work. Our overheads are low so we'll be ok but so many incredible projects are struggling! That's why we're asking our followers for their advice - Is this of value to you?

Obviously, it's not entirely selfless. We want to grow our membership to the next level and this would massively help.

So, would this be of interest? Is this a crap idea? Would you want to be part of it?

A few wee notes, this would only run as a pilot until Jan 1st and then we'd stop to figure out if it works. We're keen individuals don't sell. Also, we're aware so many of you have memberships/substacks you need to attract members too and we don't want to impinge on that!

Found this incredible little Phadion 55 box set recently and snapped it up for our library members. These little 25x25 photo books offer mini deep dives on a photographer while having highlights of work from across their careers. This box set includes Lisette Model,Eugene Argent, Matthew Brady, Jacob Riis and David Moriyama.

We already have a few others from this series in the library including books about Nan Goldin, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Mary Ellen Mark. I'll look at adding the whole collection and if we end up with any doubles we'll give them away through our little free library in

On a book run yesterday, I found myself in the incredible Armchair Books 🖤

While looking about I spotted the FAB Press logo on the spine of a book - always a sign of quality! After Armchair Books kindly let me borrow a set of step ladders (thank you!) I retrieved this absolute gem for our library members - Donald Cammell: A Life on the Wild Side by Rebecca and Sam Umland.

This memoir tells the story of the Edinburgh native who went onto be a cult filmmaker/screenwriter including Performance, White of the Eye and Wild Side. He even appears in Kenneth Anger's Lucifer Rising!

"Provocative biography of the genius behind classic Brit-flick Performance, endorsed by many as the Bible of Decadence. Cammell inspired a generation of film-makers with his innovative approach and provocative subject matter, including Quentin Tarantino, Steven Soderbergh and Roger Avery yet he completed only four movies during his life. He remains, after his su***de in 1996, one of the most intriguing figures in the cinematic firmament and one of the least familiar. Includes a discussion of Cammell's early career in portraiture and a complete analysis of his films"

Another new addition for the library - The Satanic Screen: An Illustrated Guide to the Devil in Cinema.

We have a few of the Faber & Faber film books but this is the first I've seen one that was a box set with a VHS! Spotted this Ed Wood box set in a charity shop and had to liberate it for our library members. The box set includes Rudolph Grey's deep dive on Wood's Life and career 'Nightmare of Ecstasy' (which features a quote for our patron saint John Waters). Also included is a VHS of Plan 9 from Outer Space with a booklet and poster. I've no idea how we will loan this out but it'll be in the library for those of you who visit to have a look.

Another new addition to the library - Aura Rosenberg's HEAD SHOTS. An incredible photography book that includes writing from two of the Trasho Library favourites - Lynne Tillman & Gary Indiana.

"Aura Rosenberg is concerned with the visible expression of sexual desire. Capturing the moment of or**sm on camera is usually reserved for the vo**ur, the hidden witness. What Rosenberg has done is present herself as the public's witness via the camera, inviting a number of men into her studio to reenact the ecstasy of release, the moment when potency and vulnerability coexist. The result is a collection of extraordinary photographs that run the gamut of psychosexual expression. Whether her subjects were really giving their best shot or simply indulging in sublime fakery is just one of the very pertinent questions these pictures throw out. In acting out their most abandoned sexual and emotional moment before her lens, Rosenberg's subjects invite us to step beyond the traditional limits of vo**urism.
