We're looking forward to joining Legion Scotland's Community Coffee Morning on 16th June at New Haig House in Edinburgh.

One of our team will be there to talk about the services available to veterans and their families living with sight loss. Whether you're already familiar with our work or just want to find out more, come along and say hello.

☕ Legion Scotland Coffee Morning

We’re pleased to welcome colleagues from Sight Scotland Veterans, who will be joining us to give a short presentation on the vital services and support they provide for veterans and their families.

Join us for a relaxed morning of warm drinks, delicious cake, and great company, with plenty of time to connect, chat, and catch up with others in the community.

To celebrate Volunteers' Week, we welcomed volunteers and volunteer coordinators to a thank you lunch, to show our appreciation for everything they do for our charities.

Colleagues joined from our Board of Trustees, Residential Services, Technology and Veterans Centres, with Hawkhead volunteer driver David Carruthers cutting the cake!

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day, a day to recognise what becomes possible when technology is built with everyone in mind.

Sight Scotland Veterans' Digital Hub is a good example of that in practice. Every week, more than 90 veterans with sight loss join virtual calls to connect, chat, and spend time with people who understand their experience.

For some, it has been genuinely life-changing. Christine, whose late partner Jimmy was a Digital Hub member, recently visited to meet the veterans he had connected with online. She wanted to thank the community that had meant so much to them both.

That kind of connection is what accessibility makes possible.

A weekly phone call has a life-changing impact on four vision-impaired veterans, one of whom had not left his house for over two years.

INCLUSION | Book now on to the Archery GB Coaching Archers with a Disability Course🏹

We are pleased to have Archery GB Coach Developers coming up to Scotland to deliver the 2-day Coaching Archers with Disability course at Sight Scotland Veterans Hawkhead Centre in Paisley. The course will take place on 13th & 14th June📆

This is a great opportunity and the workshop is designed to equip coaches and instructors with the confidence and skills to support archers of all abilities in an inclusive and accessible environment ✅

Throughout the course, participants will explore and experience:

1. Understanding diverse needs and how different impairments can affect shooting.

2. Developing coaching techniques for archers with challenges related to balance, stance, or strength.

3. Supporting archers with limited mobility or grip strength in drawing the bowstring.

4. Inclusive coaching strategies for archers with visual impairments.

5. Creating a welcoming and accessible archery experience for everyone.

6. Using and adapting equipment and assistive devices.

7. Safety and risk management considerations for inclusive coaching.

8. Effective recruitment and development pathways to support disabled archers in the sport.

The cost is £90 and is subsidised by The Fletcher’s Trust. Hope to see you there.
