Some good news developing...‘Continental-style zebras’ are cheap, effective ways of giving pedestrians priority in crossing the road. They'e the same as ordinary zebra crossings, but don’t have the orange belisha beacons which add hugely to their cost owing to the need to supply power.

They’re common all over Europe but bizarrely, aren’t permitted on public roads in Scotland (although there’s one right outside the Scottish Parliament!) That might be about to change with new UK TSRGD regulations due by 2028. (Thanks to Cllrs Booth and Ross for their motion to council yesterday).

COMELY BANK ROAD:
Update from Scottish Water

"A brief update on the ongoing works following reports of subsidence on Comely Bank Road.
After receiving reports of the issue, the local authority carried out an investigation and excavated the affected area. During this work, damage was identified on a sewer which may have contributed to the subsidence. Responsibility for the repair has since been passed to Scottish Water.
Due to the depth of the excavation and the complexity of the repair, we have needed to bring in additional specialist equipment and larger machinery to carry out the work safely and effectively.
As a result, the road remains closed, with signed diversion routes in place to help manage traffic around the works area.
Our delivery partner, Clancy, is attending site today to take over the repair. We expect to be able to provide a more accurate programme update over the coming days and will be sure to keep you in the loop.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
We appreciate the inconvenience this may cause and thank the community for their patience."
