I have lived in South Ayrshire since 2017, and during that time I have seen clearly the pressures and challenges facing people and families in our communities. These are real, everyday issues that deserve serious attention, honesty, and practical action.
While party processes such as vetting and selection must be allowed to run their proper course, I believe it is important that public life is grounded in high standards. That means openness, accountability, and a willingness to be transparent with people, even when issues are difficult.
Transparency, for me, is central to building and maintaining trust. Without it, confidence in politics weakens and people become more distant from decision-making. I believe transparency should therefore be at the heart of how politics is conducted.
I have not yet been selected as a candidate, and I fully respect that the party process must be followed in full. I am not assuming any outcome and it would be naรฏve for me to do so, and I will continue to engage constructively throughout that process.
I do not believe in making exaggerated promises or claiming to have all the answers. What I do believe in is listening to people, understanding local priorities, and working to make South Ayrshire a better place to live for everyone.
I am care experienced, and I believe that lived experience should have a place in public life. While there are already people with care experience in Scottish politics, it remains underrepresented, particularly at local level. That matters, because better decisions are made when a wider range of life experiences are reflected.
I am also concerned about the future of children and young people in and leaving care. There is still more to do to ensure that support is consistent, outcomes are fair, and every young person has the stability and opportunity they need to thrive. I support full delivery of The Promise, Scotlandโs commitment to care-experienced children and young people, and believe it should be fully implemented in practice.
I am also conscious of the pressures of the cost of living, which can have a significant impact on care-experienced people, particularly those transitioning into independent living without the same family support networks others may rely on. This makes strong, accessible support systems even more important.
I also believe there should be a strong emphasis on supporting vulnerable people and ordinary residents when decisions are made on issues such as council tax and social rent, ensuring that fairness and affordability remain central considerations in public life.
These principles, transparency, accountability, and fair treatment, are what I would seek to bring to public life if selected. Regardless of outcome, I will continue to support efforts that improve outcomes for care-experienced people and strengthen trust in how decisions are made locally.
