Our teams don't just support people at home. They bring community to them. 🫶

We still think back to the Burns supper our Dunoon team hosted. Sandwiches, haggis balls, and cake, poetry and most importantly, great company.

It's a good example of how we do things differently. Our Support Practitioners help people stay active and independent through programmes like Move to Improve. They capture what matters most to someone through Digitally Enhanced Support Plans, using video, pictures, and audio to bring their support to life. They also help people stay connected to their local community.

Because it all comes back to this:

"If I didn't have carers coming in, I wouldn't be able to stay at home. I would have to go into a care home, and I would lose my independence." - Rosemary, person supported by Carr Gomm

Would you like to be part of the reason someone gets to stay in their own home, on their own terms?

Our Dunoon team is hiring full-time and part-time Support Practitioners.

You'll support people with their daily routines according to their individual support plan, including meal preparation, medication, personal care, and other practical support to maintain independence and quality of life. Shifts vary depending on people's needs, generally 07:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 22:00.

As a charity supporting over 5800 people each year in Scotland, we are obligated to share what really works and what must change so that everyone who needs it can have good quality social care.

Andrew Thomson, our Chief Executive, and our Operations Managers have had positive conversations with MSPs from 3 different parties so far. Our Involvement Group, made up of people we support, has also continued to share their expertise directly with MSPs.

A strong social care system matters to all of us. It means our family members can live in their own home even if they live with frailty or struggle with their mental health, it means a young carer can get the critical respite support they need, and it means our communities are places where all people thrive and can live good lives.

We hope that all the politicians we talk to will better understand the value and impact of our skilled social care workforce in Scotland.

A huge congratulations and thank you to our fundraisers who participated in the Dundee Kiltwalk earlier this month!

The Coldside Sole Survivors took on the epic Mighty Stride (20 miles), while Jennifer took on the Wee Wander with her Support Practitioner.

Together, they raised an incredible £1,666 for Carr Gomm's community projects and activities in Dundee, smashing their fundraising targets.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part! 👏

We're hiring an HR Officer to join our team!

📍 Hybrid | £26,391.15 - £27,798.17 per annum | Full time | Closing date: 7th September

A big thank you to our Trustees!

As a charity, Carr Gomm is guided by a Board of Trustees who volunteer their time and expertise to help lead the organisation. They bring a huge range of skills and experience, and their commitment helps shape the decisions that support our staff and the people we support across Scotland.

We're proud of the open, collaborative culture we've built together, and it was lovely to see a bit of that at our recent Board meeting.

Thank you to each of our Trustees for the time, care and thought you bring to Carr Gomm. 🙏

A garden should be more than just an outdoor space. It's somewhere people can relax, connect and feel at home.

That's why last year we transformed the garden at our Morningside Service to create a stunning, safe space for the people who live there.

With their suggestions and opinions in mind, the garden has become a space where people from across the neighbourhood can gather, soak in the sun and build connections.

Because it’s more than a garden, it’s about creating a better quality of life for the people who live there.

👋Meet Dorothy, one of our Support Practitioners.

We asked her what she loves about working in social care, and honestly, it's not what everyone expects. It's not just sitting in the house. It's supporting people to get out and about, trying new things, and being part of someone's life.

For Dorothy, it's the rewarding moments and the relationships that make the job. No two days are the same, and always the chance to make someone's day that little bit better.

Thank you, Dorothy, for all that you do! 🫶
