Combat Recce - The Scottish & North Irish Yeomanry

The Landrover GS has been the work horse for the military for many years. Regardless of regiment, cap badge or trade every unit has used a Landrover.

Over the past few weeks reservists have been learning how to maintain, drive and conceal their vehicles.

Students from 5 different reservist units were taught these skills at Leuchars by a team of instructors who are also from different reserve units. A great example of team work and collaborative training.

Recently B Sqn provided some fire support for a combat logistics patrol on a weekend training exercise.

Providing a Fire Support Group (FSG) is just one of the tasks that Light Cav troops can be requested to do.

For all members of the Royal Armoured Corps it’s important to keep up to date with their skills and drills to ensure that vehicle crews are prepared to deal with any emergency situation should one occur.

C (FFY/SH) Sqn have been brushing up on crew training to cover fire fighting and casualty evacuation from the JKL.

Operating in crews means that teamwork is crucial to what we do and everyone has their part to play.

It’s been a busy week for the team at C (FFY/SH) Sqn.

Having already attended the Perth Energy Festival at the weekend they also provided a JKL and crew to the Balgove Farmers Market on Tuesday.

This was followed by a busy Wednesday when they hosted Willie Rennie, MSP for NE Fife. He attended a training night where he had the opportunity to meet and chat with our reservists and learn about the opportunities that the Army Reserve has given them and the relevance and benefits to their civilian roles.

Members of the Sqn Old Comrades Association were also present, demonstrating the enduring link between our Veterans and serving personnel.

This weekend while the wider regiment took park in Ex Hawkeye, the annual shooting competition a small team from C (FFY/SH) Sqn spent the weekend supporting the Perth Energy Festival. This is a STEM based community event with an onus on physical activity and "getting moving".

Favourable weather saw large
attendance on both days with the JKL, FPV Simulator and sUAS being a huge draw.
Demonstrating the versatility of the Army Reserve, all of our crew, less one, work in STEM fields from Paramedic science, Nursing and Engineering.

Last night in Cupar the OC, Maj J conducted his first enlistment as the Squadron Leader where he welcomed Mr N into C Sqn and the wider regiment.

Mr N is now looking forward to completing his phase 1 training before getting his teeth into his Light Cav qualifications.
