Our Housing Specialist Cat highlights the importance of the families’ voice in decisions about military housing in the latest Housing Matters podcast from DIO.

The discussion with presenters Sebastian O’Hara and Trish Jakeman ranges from the work of AFF, Naval Families Federation and RAF Families Federation supporting personnel and their families to the current issue of SFA availability for those in established long-term relationships.

The Commanding Officer had the great pleasure to promote Cpl C to Sgt this morning.

The move from Junior to Senior NCO is a big step in any soldier’s career and a day that will not be forgotten.

This promotion gains Sgt C entry into the Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess. Only SNCOs are allowed into the mess. Everyone else is invitation only, including the Commanding Officer.

Congratulations on your promotion Sgt C and enjoy mess life.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day takes place on Saturday 10th October 2026. This years theme has been decided as "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change". The theme has been adopted by Mental Health-UK.

It’s good to talk. It’s even better to be heard. Being heard helps us feel understood, less alone, and more able to cope with the challenges we face. That’s why our message this World Mental Health Day is simple - Support starts with being heard.

The SNIY have trained staff who are able to assist anyone with Mental Health challenges and to sign post them to medical professionals and support agencies.

Help make mental health conversations easier by sharing your story, starting a conversation with someone you care about, or simply taking the time to listen.

This weekend, a Troop made up of soldiers from A, C and E Sqn, SNIY deployed onto the training area to refresh and develop their reconnaissance skills.

The Troop conducted Close Target Reconnaissance on an enemy position, deploying forward to observe, gather information and build a detailed picture of the situation. Once the task was complete, they returned to their hide to compile their reports and prepare a brief for the Squadron OC.

For Light Cavalry soldiers, the ability to operate forward of friendly forces, find and observe the enemy, and report accurately is fundamental. The information gathered by reconnaissance troops enables commanders to better understand the enemy’s intentions and make informed decisions.

Another valuable training opportunity for SNIY’s soldiers to sharpen their craft.

B Sqn have been busy again, they along with staff from the Army Training Unit (NI) have been training with and honing their stills on sUAS. 15 reservists conducted the training on the Operators Course at the Ballykinler training area this past weekend.
