Moray Libraries Service has 11 libraries situated across Moray, all with free internet access and free WiFi. Our online services are available 24/7 from home. Moray Libraries offers a variety of services and activities to the public - ranging from storytimes for under 5s to reminiscence sessions for older people. From the archive: Seaforth Highlanders Headquarters in Cooper Park

Originally built in 1905, these architectural plans show the original floor-plan for this prominent building in Cooper Park. While the main space was a drill hall the building also housed an armoury, a recreation and training room, and even a 'Maxim Gun' room (these being the machine guns in use by the regiment at the time).

The building remained in use as a drill hall by the Seaforth Highlanders for much of the 20th century before becoming part of the Elgin Library complex, with the current public area of the library being built adjacent to it in 1996. The main drill hall is now home to the STEM Starts centre.

From the archive: architectural plans for Elgin Lunatic Asylum

Built to the west of Dr. Gray's Hospital and later known as Bilbohall Hospital, the facility originally opened in 1835. While these plans show the overall layout of the building they do not date from the original construction, and were instead drawn for later additions and alterations made to the building from the mid to late 1800s. The building operated as a mental institution for over 150 years before being demolished in 1992.

We're still busy digitising our huge collection of architectural plans held in our archive, so we'll have plenty more to share with in the weeks to come!
