📢 Garmouth Viaduct Update 📢

Following the partial collapse of Garmouth Viaduct, Moray Council has been progressing plans to safely remove the collapsed sections from the river.

The project was initially procured in two stages through an existing council framework. The first stage involved developing a removal methodology and estimating the cost of the work. However, once this assessment was completed, the estimated cost exceeded the framework's allowable limit. As a result, the second stage, the physical removal of the collapsed sections, was procured through a full competitive tender process open to suitably qualified contractors.

✅ Four contractors submitted bids, with the contract awarded to TMS Ltd, an experienced marine and civil engineering contractor with expertise in both land and water-based works.

📆 Initial meetings with the contractor are scheduled to take place this month, and further details, including timescales for the removal works, will be shared in the coming weeks.

It's full steam ahead for work at Cooper Park Pond 🛟

- Repairs and repointing on the pond walls and its stones which happened over the summer ensure they are now watertight and will protect the stone from frost come winter time ❄️

- The ticket office has also been repainted by a local artist to add a lovely creative touch to the area with photos to be shared soon 🎨

- Improved and widened pathways are well underway, with tarmac being laid and grass seeding begun.

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates and timings for refilling of the pond 👀

Elgin Neighbourhood Board

Cooper Park has been an important part of Elgin for generations, with previous public engagement carried out by Elgin Neighbourhood Board and Moray Council finding a strong desire for improvements within the park.

As part of this, a new series of Elgin Neighbourhood Board engagement events is taking place until December to learn more about what you want to see in Cooper Park. We will share more details of a drop-in session in November soon, but in the meantime, you can share your thoughts on the Moray Engage website linked in the comments below.

The board are encouraging as many people as possible to take part to make your voice heard.

🥳 Five community-led projects across Moray's coastline are set to benefit from £100,000 of funding after residents cast their votes through the Moray Engage platform.

The successful projects have been awarded funding through Crown Estate Scotland’s Coastal Communities Fund 2026, which supports initiatives that help strengthen, protect and enhance Moray's coastal communities.

The successful projects are:

✅ Water Safety Project – Outfit Moray: £19,800 (full grant)

✅ Moray Shore & Sea Clean Collective – Burghead Sub Aqua Club: £12,690 (full grant)

✅ Lossie West Beach Coastal Protection and Access Repair – Lossie Community Development Trust: £50,000 (full grant)

While the original application requested £15,000, the funding awarded will enable the project to deliver coastal learning courses in five coastal primary schools.
