Huge congratulations to Nick Parkes, who has made history by becoming the world’s first sudden cardiac arrest survivor to swim the full length of Loch Ness solo!

On Monday 31 August, Nick swam an incredible 36.2km (22.5 miles), completing the challenge in an amazing 11 hours and 57 minutes. πŸ‘

After suffering a sudden cardiac arrest during a race at Rother Valley in 2023, Nick knows first-hand the importance of lifesaving emergency care. Our crew provided critical care at the scene and helped give Nick a second chance at life.

Now, he has taken on this incredible challenge to raise vital funds for YAA and Sudden Cardiac Arrest UK, helping support the lifesaving work of both charities. πŸ’›

Nick, what an incredible achievement - we’re so proud to have been part of your journey. Congratulations! πŸŠπŸšπŸ’›

Rachel Darling Love is living proof of the difference your support can make.πŸšπŸ’›

Rachel has always loved cycling, taking part in numerous events including the UK Police Unity Tour. But one evening while cycling in Barton, Rachel suffered a devastating accident that left her fighting for her life.

Without the rapid intervention of our crew and their ability to fly a doctor directly to the scene, she may not have survived. Our doctor was able to provide critical care at the roadside before Rachel continued her journey to hospital, where she spent time in ITU, described as being near death and fighting for her life. After surgery and an incredible recovery, she was able to return home just 12 days later. πŸ’›

Now, Rachel wants to pay it forward.

She has signed up for our very first Pedal to the Pad challenge and is taking on the long-distance route to raise money for YAA. πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸš

Rachel says: β€œYou never know when you or a loved one will need this service… Your dosh really does make ALL the difference.”

And she’s absolutely right. As an independent charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to keep our helicopters flying and our crews ready to respond.

Join Rachel and take on Pedal to the Pad on Saturday 3 October 2026.

🚴 102 miles - Skipton Bridge Airbase to Nostell Airbase
🚴 30 miles - Finish at Norparts, Malton

Challenge yourself, help save lives and be part of something truly special.πŸ’›

Good luck, Nick! πŸ’›

Today, Nick Parkes takes on an incredible 22-mile swim across the full length of Loch Ness to raise vital funds for YAA.

In 2023, Nick suffered a cardiac arrest during a race at Rother Valley. He was given critical care by our crew at the scene and, after being declared dead for 20 minutes and spending two days in a coma, Nick came home. πŸ’›

At 65, and following a double bypass, Nick is taking on this incredible challenge to help ensure YAA can continue being there for people when they need us most.

Nick, everyone at YAA is behind you today! We’re wishing you the very best of luck for your incredible swim. You’ve got this! πŸšπŸ’›

Five-year-old Arlo was absolutely over the moon when he got the chance to meet our Specialist Paramedic Wayne and Pilot Garry – and even took this fantastic photo of our aircraft himself! πŸ“ΈπŸš

Arlo's Mum, Shauna said 'He’s watched all the episodes with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance on TV and had been hoping to get a closer look at your helicopter for some time.'

Thank you for coming to see us Arlo – we’re so glad we could make your day! 😊
