28-8-26 Bev and I were invited to the opening of the new (upgraded) market in Ellesmere Port. This was a lovely occasion where the leader of the council, Cllr Louise Gittins, opened the market with distinguished guests, market traders and members of the public in attendance.

29-8-26 (am) Bev and I were invited to the opening of the carpet shop in EP market. John (shop owner) had organised the event, with food and drinks for all in attendance. We were joined by Cllr Margaret Parker (Her Worshipful Lord Mayor of Chester), Justin Madders MP and Barbara Bosch (former Oberburgermeister of Reutlingen) arrived with Fritz (Friends of Reutlingen group) and distinguished guests. This was an excellent occasion and we wish John and his colleagues all the best for the future.

29-8-26 (am) Bev and I attended the opening of the magnificent new care home, Willowmere. Justin Madders MP was also in attendance. This is simply what a care home should be for everyone requiring care in their later years. This remarkable care home has wonderful bespoke rooms for residents; a cinema room, hairdressers, dining rooms on each floor, viewing rooms, a bar for those who want a drink, private rooms and a lovely atmosphere throughout the home. The staff are outstanding (thanks Lorraine, Liz and Rachel) and it is clear that residents there will get first class care and attention. Willowmere is a wonderful addition to the care community in Ellesmere Port and I wish it every success for its future.

29-8-26 (pm) During the evening, the Lady Mayoress and I, attended the Robbers Dogs event, the Growlers weekend. The RDs are one of my chosen charities (they raise money for equipment for people with disabilities) and this was a great night of rock music and dancing. All the RDs guys were great with us: making us feel very welcome. I was asked to present awards to various bikers and I also gave a speech thanking them for their work in the community. I look forward to working with them across my Mayoral Year! Many thanks to Martin, Ian and the guys for their hospitality and the best of luck with their fund raising efforts!

12-08-26: The Lady Mayoress and I attended a lovely solar eclipse event at Hope Farm Church. We arrived at 5.00pm and were greeted by Fritz and Steve. I made a brief speech to open the event and then we were taken round the church to see all the activities that were going on. This included a live feed from Greenwich Observatory, music and lots of free burgers and hot dogs for those in attendance. There were well over 200 people there and it was exactly the sort of inclusive event that I want to see during my Mayoral year. Bev and I would like to thank all the fantastic volunteers, who worked so hard to provide the food, drinks, music and even the solar eclipse glasses; which helped make it such a superb event for everyone in attendance… Fantastic, well done everybody!

13-08-26: Bev and I were invited to the Port Men in Sheds site, where in just over 2 years (from 2024), Martin and his team (over 80 members), they have transformed a largely derelict site into the vibrant, giant workshop we see today. This organisation welcomes any man who wishes to join and, again, this welcoming, inclusive community is exactly what I want to see in Ellesmere Port. Martin showed Bev and I round…. and what they have achieved in such a short period of time is quite simply remarkable! Congratulations to everyone involved and we look forward to seeing you all again…. 🪜🪑

On the 11 July 2026, Bev and I were invited to the Darts Academy. We were joined by Cllr Kendrick OBE and her husband, Steven. This was an excellent event: the academy was celebrating its 2nd anniversary and lots of awards were handed out to budding Luke Littler’s. Best of luck to them all for their future darts careers. 🎯
On Sunday, 12 July, 2026, Bev and I were invited to the Daniel Adamson (The Danny) promotional cruise up and down the River Weaver. The weather was glorious and we were joined by Cllrs Lisa Denson (Deputy Mayor) and Lucy Sumner. We all enjoyed an excellent cruise where we were shown videos explaining the history of The Danny, from its inception in 1903, through to its refurbishment in 2004 and beyond. We were onboard for about 4 hours and had a wonderful time…. Highly recommended, if you get some time….
On Monday, 13 July 2026, Bev and I hosted The Danny community event in the Civic Hall in Ellesmere Port. This was a more formal event: I gave the keynote speech and Chris (The Danny) and Catriona (the Cheshire West Train Association) also spoke (Check out both their websites). We were joined by a bout 50 people, from the voluntary, private and public sectors. Once the formal bit was concluded it was good to see people networking. Do get involved if you are interested…. 🚢🚂
On Thursday, 16 July, 2026, Bev and I attended the Little Sutton Chair Yoga session we all joined in it was so good. Text Martie on 07931 063334 if you are interested.
Finally, for this week, Bev and I attended the Bastille Day event at Hollymere on the 17 July, 2026. I gave a speech in French (apologies for the awful accent 😂) and thanks to Tracey, et al for inviting us. The hospitality was superb and we all enjoyed a memorable evening….. EP Mayor’s blog: 4-7-26 to 10-7-26
4-7-26 Bev and I were invited the Barratt Homes New Development at The Cedars. This is a superb, environmentally friendly, new development of properties in our borough. It was great to meet Lee and the team.
Later in the day Bev and I attended the Allotment Association BBQ. This was a very relaxed event and it was a pleasure to meet the chair (Charlie) and the team. The opportunity to grow their own vegetables is very appealing to many and it was great to see..
On the 7-7-26 Bev and I attended the Whitby High School Awards evening. This was a lovely occasion with many students receiving awards for their hard work and determination.
On the following evening (8-7-26), Bev and I attended the Ellesmere Port Catholic School Awards evening. This was a superb evening. I was asked to present the awards and make a speech. This was a terrific evening: with many students receiving awards for all their hard work.
We’re looking forward to next week now…. 😊☀️😊

We had a BBQ to raise money for our two charities (The People's Pantry & The Robbers Dog) on the 28th June. It was a lovely event and the weather was kind...☀️
On the 1st July we attended the Deaf & Sensory Network at the Abbeywood Estate and Gardens in Delamere Forest, Northwich. This was an excellent event: raising awareness about the deaf and sensory community in Cheshire.
On the 3rd July, Bev and I attended the celebrations of the 78 years that the NHS has existed. The Lord Mayor of Chester hosted and gave a good speech in support of the NHS.

Meet Councillor John Stockton, Mayor of Ellesmere Port 2026–2027.
Born in Rossett, North Wales, John has dedicated his life to public service, education and the community. After a successful 45-year career as a teacher, senior leader and local councillor, he was elected to represent Wolverham Ward in 2024.
John and his wife Beverley, who both have long records of public service, are honoured to serve as Mayor and Mayoress of Ellesmere Port. Together, they look forward to meeting residents from across the town, supporting local charities, and promoting an open, inclusive and welcoming community for all.

As my year as Mayor of Ellesmere Port comes to an end, I can honestly say — it’s been the greatest honour of my life to serve the town I was born and bred in.
This place is special. Built on incredible people, proud communities, and a spirit you won’t find anywhere else.

At the heart of this year has been you — the residents, the volunteers, the families, and the community groups who make Ellesmere Port what it is. Everywhere I’ve gone, I’ve seen kindness, resilience, and real community spirit. You’ve inspired me more than you know.

This year has stretched me. It’s challenged me. And it’s changed me.

Thank you for trusting me.
Thank you for supporting me.
And thank you for giving me the honour of serving as your Mayor.

To my charities — Blades Down / Gloves Not Gangs, West Cheshire Foodbank and Men in Sheds — thank you for everything you do. It’s been a privilege to stand alongside you and support, even in a small way, the incredible work you do for our community.

And to my amazing Mayor’s Cadets, Ella and James — you’ve been outstanding. A real credit to Ellesmere Port.

As I hand over the chain of office, I do so with a full heart and immense pride — proud of our town, proud of our people, proud to have served.

Whatever comes next, one thing won’t change: I will always stand up and speak out for Ellesmere Port.
Because this isn’t just where I’m from — this is home. ❤️

I was delighted to officially launch Ellesmere Port Football Memories this weekend at the Boat Museum ⚽📖

It was a lovely Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate 140 years of football in Ellesmere Port—a proud legacy of talent, passion, and achievement across generations.

It was a particular honour to welcome Ian Bowyer, a true football legend, whose journey began right here in Ellesmere Port. Born in Little Sutton, Ian went on to achieve incredible success at the very highest level of the game, yet his roots remain firmly in our town—something we are all incredibly proud of.

A very special thank you to Celia Webber for writing this book. Through her work with the Ellesmere Port Local & Family History Society, she has already created a remarkable collection of memory books for our town, and this latest publication is no exception. Her dedication, determination and passion have brought together over a century of football history—preserving our community’s stories and inspiring future generations. It is a true labour of love ❤️

This event was made even more meaningful for me as it was my final formal engagement as Mayor—a wonderful way to round off such an incredible year in our incredible town.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support such a special occasion ✨️

What a fantastic day at the Little Sutton Royal British Legion Family Fun Day, made even better by the glorious sunshine! ☀️🎉

It was wonderful to see families, friends and neighbours enjoying the day and celebrating the strong community spirit we’re so proud of here in Ellesmere Port.

Thank you to the Royal British Legion for the incredible work you do supporting our veterans, serving personnel and their families. Your dedication makes a real difference.

A special thank you as well to veteran Freddie Wing for all his continued support, commitment, and fundraising efforts —you represent everything the Legion stands for.

Thank you to everyone who came along, supported the stalls, and contributed to fundraising efforts, including the roof fund. Days like this show just how powerful our community is when we come together.

✨ Thank You from the Mayor’s Community Charity Ball ✨

Earlier this month, the Mayor proudly hosted her Community Charity Ball – and what a truly wonderful evening it was!

It was fantastic to see so many incredible community groups and charities come together for such a fun packed night. The atmosphere was made even more special with live music from local band 'The Refiners' alongside delicious food provided by 'We Don’t Fudge About'.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the event – from the organisers and volunteers to all who attended and contributed. Your support, generosity, and community spirit made the evening such a great success.

Together, we are making a difference ❤️
