Join us at the magnificent Haddo House for Witches (2024), a striking documentary exploring the history, legacy and modern relevance of witchcraft. Blending personal stories, historical insight and contemporary perspectives, the film examines the experiences of those accused of witchcraft and asks what the witch means to us today.

But the conversation doesn’t end when the credits roll…

🗣️ Stay for a post-screening panel discussion exploring witchcraft and Paganism in both historical and contemporary contexts. In partnership with The Belmont Community Cinema, the discussion will look at the lasting impact of the witch trials, the persecution of people on the margins of society, and how these histories continue to shape our understanding of power, belief and injustice.

Today we installed some new draught excluders from Chimney Sheep Ltd in the many chimneys of Haddo House.

Those who have visited us before in winter know that this is a draughty old house and that is in large part due to its large and open chimneys. The "sheep" will allow us to trial new passive environmental controls by reducing the amount of warm air pulled up the flues and cold & damp air returning – all while, hopefully, reducing some of our heating costs.

This trial will last for 6 months over winter: see if you can spot the tags in the chimneys on your next visit!

The latest progress update for the Library catalogue project shows case no. 6 is partially done and case no. 7 finished, taking the main shelves to nearly 24% completion.

These books have mainly been in English, Italian, French and German, along with a couple in Spanish and Latin, mostly spread in age from the mid/late 1700s to across the 1800s.

Many books with interesting subjects, signatures, annotations and pictures have been found. Some of these will feature in an upcoming post about the discoveries so far.
