𝗛𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗼'𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 - 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀!
Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th November, 10am to 4pm

Building on last year's sparkling success, we received many requests from crafters to join this year's fair. We have been spoilt for choice and have curated over 45 makers to take part – and ensure you will be too!

With faces both new and old, this year's fair will be even bigger and better than the last one and all set to get you in the festive spirit.

🧤 We were recently asked why we have not been seen wearing gloves during the library catalogue work.

Most of the time we don't wear them for handling books. This is because the older a book is, the better we want to be able to feel its pages. Touch is one of the most sensitive senses: it tells us when there may be tiny catches or tears or imperfections in the pages that could be exacerbated if caught in a glove. It also gives us a sense of how 'healthy' the paper is – is it too dry? Is it damp? Is there something on it? Can we straighten that dog ear?

To do this properly we do wash our hands a lot! Clean and dry hands with no oils or sweat are essential for making sure we aren't contaminating the pages.

So, do we ever wear gloves? Absolutely! When there are books that potentially have mould, or chemicals in the dyes of the covers that may cause harm, gloves are a must! Thankfully, most of the books we've catalogued so far in the Haddo library haven't caused concern.

💐 Two lovely new arrangements of flowers from the garden have been brought into the Dining Room and Ante Room, providing some extra colour and spark.

⚔️ Guesses about the North Wing abstract painting detail posted yesterday included the figures sword fighting, fencing... and beekeeping.

🐪 As seen here, the answer is that they were riding! In this case, camels, in part of a scene titled, "Hurrying Home, Lower Egypt". But the duelling guesses are understandable given what the figures appear to be carrying.

⛲ 𝗛𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗼'𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 - 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 & 𝗡𝗼𝘄 is a special tour of the development of the ornamental terrace garden led by our First Gardener, Tim.

Held 12th September, Tim will explain the ways in which the modern garden intertwines with its heritage styles, a careful balance on which he will shed a light.
