Our squadron is joining in with the celebration of National Cadet Week!
We are proud to see the hard work that our cadets put into all the activities on and off squadron. They create memories and generate skills that set them up for life, whilst representing us at wing and regional levels with the highest of standards!
We couldn’t be prouder of Team 1990! 💪🏻

Adult volunteers are vital in helping our squadron stay open for two nights a week and to allow cadets to attend weekend and holiday activities and camps.

There is no minimum weekly or monthly commitment and no need to transition to a uniform role, however simply attending on a parade evening allows us to fulfil minimum staff requirements to stay open.

Being a staff member also gives something back to you too - A platform to grow your own skills, learn, lead, socialise with other volunteers and allow you to partake in many activities that you wouldn’t do otherwise.

If you’re in the Ellon area and would like to help out - whether teaching classes, being a subject matter expert, helping with admin or even just to help with staff numbers - we would love to hear from you.

What’s been happening at 1990 this summer…..First up, at the beginning of July The McDonald-Smalls along with the RAFAC Pipes and Drums had a camp at Leuchars culminating in performing at the Palace of Holyrood House for the DofE Award Ceremony. Here they met the Duke of Edinburgh himself and as the CWO played his last gig as Pipe Major, FS McDonald-Small was appointed Drum Major. Well done to them both, what a fantastic experience.

We are delighted to share that with funding support from Air Cadet Charity,
we have been able to procure a brand new Flight Simulator, including laptop, screen, flight controls and VR headset, allowing us to have VR flight capability! This allows a fully immersive flight experience and is essential in helping our cadets through their progressive syllabus! We had the first group trying it out this week and everyone looks forward to trying it and using our flight simulator equipment more!

On Saturday, 8 cadets from 1990 joined the wing for Armed Forces Day parade in Aberdeen. A credit to the squadron!

Blue Road Marching Complete 🔥. Four 1990 cadets were part of the team at Boddam Camp who took on the challenge of the Blue Road Marching Course. They covered 29km over two days in the blazing sun and then in the torrential rain. They learned some marching songs, ate a lot of haribo, aquired a few blisters and made new pals. Well done to all of them for their grit, determination and resilience👏

A fantastic day for the team! Some excellent performances, lots of medals and trophies won and lots of encouragement for each other and the rest of the Wing. Looking awesome in the new kit funded by Ellon Athletics Club where many of our cadets learned their skills😁
