𝗔𝗻 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 – 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝟮𝟳/𝟬𝟯/𝟮𝟰)

Mike Emmington was awaiting some better weather before spraying the w**d killer. This has since been completed. A member of the public asked what date the MUGA will be open to the public but unfortunately no date was given in reply.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮 (𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗔𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲)

Paul Hayhurst advises that he is putting pressure on Fylde borough council, as they are the land owners, to give the parish council money to maintain the area until the park can be renovated.

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀

The trees have been potted at a cost of £342. These trees will be transferred to the Chapel Mill estate when the parish council take control of the green space.

𝗘𝗹𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗜𝗻 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺

A village open day will be held on Sunday 19th May where potential volunteers for Elswick in Bloom are encouraged to come along and sign up.

𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻/𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱

It was agreed to use a large portion of the new homes bonus (£1900) for maintenance of the village green and wildflower meadow.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗸

Paul Hayhurst announced that there may be a new clerk soon, however, as this was a sensitive matter the public were excluded.

𝗕𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻

The Elswick bowling club are going to lease the land where their hut is located for a peppercorn rate of £5 per year. This will then allow them to be able to apply for grants.

𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘆

A new 22 inch mower has been purchased for £602.89. It was agreed to purchase a strimmer for £479.

𝗪𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲

The council have completed the purchase of a new website (hosted by Netwise). This will need compiling along with creation of new email addresses for all councillors.

𝟳𝟰 𝗕𝘂𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 - 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲/𝗦𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 🚌

After the news regarding Blackpool Transport pulling out of this crucial bus route for our village, we've made contact with County Councillor John Singleton for more information. He has provided us with an update and has agreed to take forward any suggestions that Elswick residents might have. We will send over the previous suggestion to avoid Copp Lane between Ash Road/Beech Road and High Street but please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments that we can send over too. 👇

Update from John Singleton:

Blackpool Transport have decided that they can no longer operate service 74 & 75, which they run as a tendered service on behalf of the County Council. Basically due to driver shortages, throughout the bus industry, and significant increases in costs they can no longer operate it at the price they submitted when they originally took on the work a few years ago. Blackpool Transport has given the appropriate required notice, 6 months, and will stop running the service in mid-August 2024.

The county council has issued a new tender, on a like for like basis, and we are waiting for submissions from local operators, which could include Blackpool Transport, before we can say who may be running the service from August.

This service will continue to operate.

I will supply an update after the tender process has concluded.

Why not come down and join the Elswick Parish Council meeting. To get you up to speed, here's some notes from last month's meeting! 😃

If you have a question for the council then there's also a 15 minute public time at the beginning but you'll need to send your question into the clerk before 12pm on the day of the meeting.

We never received a response from our letter but I imagine this is the response to our querying. Thank you to the "Unofficial Parish Council" for their mature reply.

The clarification on the pots is fine but still doesn't answer the question why they can't be planted now and why the Council Tax payer have had to pay potentially £𝟮𝟱𝟬 - £𝟯𝟬𝟬 in costs for what should have been a 𝙁𝙍𝙀𝙀 project.

You can also see the response we had from Julie Vale in the Arboricultural Team at Fylde Borough Council about their concerns on the length of time being in pots.

𝙇𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙥𝙥 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙚 𝘽𝙪𝙨 𝙍𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙚 🚌

We're conducting a little investigation work in regards to buses using Copp Lane as a cut through between Beech Road and High Street on their routes.

We've had concerns expressed to us about near misses between buses and cars, pedestrians jumping out of the way and the accelerated deterioration of the road.

Have you had experiences like this and should we speak to Lancashire County Council about stopping buses using this road as a cut through to save less than 1 minute in time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. 👇🏻

𝙁𝙮𝙡𝙙𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙚!

The Borough Council has recently donated 12 large trees worth around £𝟮,𝟱𝟬𝟬. This was revealed at the last Parish Council meeting without much context.

After some digging (pardon the pun), these trees have been donated as part of the above programme intended to improve canopy cover in areas identified across Fylde with low cover. The remit was to have these trees in the ground before Spring.

The Parish Council has decided that instead of planting now, they shall pot the trees and "store them away" whilst they wait for Create Homes to finish their building work, finish landscaping their green space and handover the land to the Council before planting these trees. This could be, by the council's own estimates, in over 12 months time!

Please see below our letter to the Council expressing our concerns that allowing these trees to sit in pots for at least 12 months, sat in a corner of the Chapel Mill estate, waiting to be planted in land we 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘆𝗲𝘁, massively reduces the survival rate of these expensive and native trees. They should be planted now ahead of Spring to guarantee their survival and be a benefit for the village now, rather than a project that could be 1 to 2 years away from completion.

The County Council has announced their budget for the forthcoming financial year with £1.9 billion to be spent.

Plenty of highlights but the headline grabber will be the Council Tax increase of 4.99% - with a 2.99% formed by general council tax and 2% towards adult social care.

Good evening everybody, you may have noticed this page appears in the beginning of the New Year but we are now excited to introduce you to our new Elswick Residents Association page! 🙌🏻

We are excited to get going and to start growing so we can start delivering for the people of Elswick and help make the village an even better place to live than it already is.
