🚒 SOHAM — WE NEED YOU 🚒

You may have seen fire engines coming into Soham from other stations recently. That’s because we don’t always have enough crew available to get our own appliance out the door.

We’re an on-call station. We don’t sit at the station all day. We’re your neighbours, with jobs and families. We carry a pager and when it goes off, we leave work, home, whatever we’re doing, and respond.

When someone’s having the worst day of their life — we turn up. That’s what we do.

Right now, we need a few more people to help us crew Soham around the clock — so we’re not relying on crews travelling in from further away.

If you live or work in Soham, we’d love to talk.

🚒 Celebrating Service at Soham Fire Station 🚒

It’s been a special couple of weeks at Soham Fire Station as we’ve marked two significant milestones.

We said a fond farewell to Marc, who retires after a combined 15 years of service in the Fire and Rescue Service. Thank you for everything you’ve given over the years, Marc, and we wish you all the very best for a long and happy retirement! 👏

We also celebrated Rebecca, who was presented with her 25 Years’ Service Badge – an incredible achievement and recognition of a quarter of a century of commitment and service. Congratulations, Rebecca! 🎉👏

Two fantastic milestones and 41 years of combined service to celebrate. 🚒🔥

“This has been one of the most significant fires our county has faced in many, many years. Our crews have been amazing in the face of gruelling conditions. Every station across the county has been at the site over the course of the week. Our Control operators have also done an exceptional job in making sure we maintain cover for other emergencies across the county and responding to 999 calls, both from our residents and for other busy services around the country.”

Chief Fire Officer Matthew Warren provides an update on the major fire at Holme Fen.

We want you to take this warning seriously, but we also need your help to keep our 999 control room lines available for emergencies ⚠️

Please call 999 if:

- You see a fire that is spreading or out of control.
- There is an immediate risk to life or property.

❗️We don't need reports of people having BBQs❗️

Please help us keep our 999 lines available for those who need us most.

And you can help us to reduce the risk of a grass or wildfire, by:

⚠️ Disposing of ci******es safely and never dropping them on the ground.
⚠️ Taking litter home with you, as glass and metal can reflect sunlight and increase the risk of fire.
⚠️ Not having barbecues and lighting bonfires.

🔥 Busy week for the Soham crew! 🚒

From field fires and fires in the open to the Holme Fen and Dunwich Heath wildfires, our crew have been out and about in the heatwave 🚒

Our firefighters have really stepped up over the last few days, making themselves available and giving up their own time to help when needed

It’s been great to see so many firefighters and services pulling together, working as one team and supporting each other through the heatwave. 👏

Welcome, Ash!

Congratulations to Ash on successfully passing his Breathing Apparatus training and earning the removal of his first diamond helmet markings.

This is the first important milestone in his development, reflecting his hard work, commitment, and dedication throughout his training.

Ash will now begin a two-year probationary period, during which he will continue to develop his skills and knowledge through ongoing training and operational experience on the job. 🚒🔥
