In the last 2 years, we’ve become more aware of people in our community with a hoarding vulnerability. In fact, the number has doubled since 2024.

That’s why we’re committed to supporting those in the community and ensuring our colleagues receive the right training to help those who need us.

This week is Hoarding Prevention Week, and colleagues in our prevention team are taking part in hoarding training, which covers:
- Ways to support people experiencing hoarding
- Hoarding disorder/dysfunctional organisation
- Communicating with someone displaying hoarding behaviours
- History of hoarding
- The reasons people may hoard.

If you or someone you know is affected by hoarding, and you’d like some support with home fire safety, get in touch via our website: https://orlo.uk/9bFTK

Please be our eyes and ears. Two of our stations have been broken into this week, so we're asking you, our local residents, to help us look out for any suspicious activity around our station.

Chatteris and Gamlingay fire stations were broken into in the early hours of Monday morning and Tuesday evening respectively. At Chatteris, life-saving cutting equipment used at road traffic collisions and other rescues was stolen.

Chief Fire Officer Matthew Warren said: “Break-ins to fire stations are happening across the country and this week we have been victims twice. We are asking for local residents to please help be our eyes and ears, to report any suspicious activity and make a note if possible of any vehicle details including registration number, as well as descriptions of any individuals involved.

"Please also save any CCTV or Ring doorbell footage if it has captured any suspicious activity. The incidents have happened when it’s dark, in the evening and early morning. Entry has been forced, so if you hear a noise coming from one of our stations, please do just look and check to see if it is our firefighters, don’t assume it is. This support by our local communities would be greatly appreciated.”

Anyone with information is asked to visit the Cambridgeshire Constabulary website or call 101 and quote the reference 35/21532/26.

Good luck to everyone running the Cambridge half marathon today 🥳💪

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) fire officer will be taking on a fundraising challenge this weekend to raise money for Magpas Air Ambulance.

As part of the challenge, Station Commander Rob Foreman will be running the TTP Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday 8 March 2026. The challenge doesn’t stop there. He’s swapping sportswear for fire kit – and running the 13.1 mile race wearing CFRS fire kit – including personal protective equipment (PPE) and breathing apparatus, weighing around 20kg.

Rob said: “I’ve witnessed the incredible care Magpas provides at the toughest moments of people’s lives. They give people the very best chance of survival long before they reach a hospital.

“Running in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and breathing apparatus is my way of honouring their resilience and helping them continue their lifesaving work.”

🚒 SOHAM — WE NEED YOU 🚒

You may have seen fire engines coming into Soham from other stations recently. That’s because we don’t always have enough crew available to get our own appliance out the door.

We’re an on-call station. We don’t sit at the station all day. We’re your neighbours, with jobs and families. We carry a pager and when it goes off, we leave work, home, whatever we’re doing, and respond.

When someone’s having the worst day of their life — we turn up. That’s what we do.

Right now, we need a few more people to help us crew Soham around the clock — so we’re not relying on crews travelling in from further away.

If you live or work in Soham, we’d love to talk.

After more than three decades of serving the community in various roles across the Service, Paul was joined by his family and colleagues to say a fond farewell on his 55th birthday.
