At its meeting on 27 August, the Planning Committee agreed to have no objection to the 13 new houses proposed on Foxbury Lane, Westbourne.

The government allocates the number of housing each area is expected to deliver, and Westbourne is obliged to find space for 30 new houses over the next 14 years. Of these, 12 are already planned and/or approved, leaving 18 still to be allocated. Seven are in the process of being applied for at land behind Mile End House on East Street, which leaves land for 11 more to be allocated.

For this application, six are included in the 12 already planned, so only seven new unplanned are proposed. If Westbourne is to achieve its housing allocation, the development must included 11 unplanned dwellings which is four more than currently proposed.

In addition, the site has been identified in Westbourne's Neighbourhood Plan which was carefully written by local residents over many years to plan development in the right places in the village. The Neighbourhood Plan is currently under review and the Council has made a number of recommendations to the planning application to ensure new considerations are taken into account.

A planning application for 13 homes off Foxbury Lane in Westbourne has been submitted to Chichester District Council by Briarsgate Homes. If approved, the development would include a new access road onto Foxbury Lane, with four being classified as affordable.

The Parish Council's Planning Committee will discuss a response to the application on Thursday 27 August at 6.15pm at Westbourne community hall

☀️ Please be aware that the UK Health Security Agency has announced that a yellow heat health alert is in place for across the South East from 9am on Saturday 8 August until 9am on Tuesday 11 August.

Anyone can become unwell when the weather is hot, but some are at higher risk than others. Please look out for older people, people with long-term health conditions and young children who may find it more difficult to stay cool and hydrated in hot weather. For advice on staying safe during hot weather, please visit the link in the comments below.

Westbourne Parish Council are aware of ongoing reports in and around Westbourne of antisocial behaviour affecting in particular St John The Baptist Church and Hitchcock Close.

Reported concerns include: Suspected drug dealing, use of catapults, drink driving, speeding, e-bikes
We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and to report any incidents to West Sussex Police. Your reports help build a clearer picture of what is happening and support the police in taking appropriate action.

📞 Call 999 if a crime is happening now or if there is an immediate danger to life or property.
📞 Call 101 to report non-emergency incidents or ongoing concerns.

Every report matters. The more information the police receive, the better they can target patrols and take action where it is needed most.
