This is the moment crews from Southern and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Wigston Fire Station rescued a newborn calf that had fallen into a river. A member of the public did the right thing and contacted the fire service for assistance.

‘Daisy’ (very original!) was left in the care of the Farmer and Vet.

Did you know in addition to firefighting, Southern is also a Technical Rescue and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) station? Would you like to see more content showcasing our specialist skills?

Some of the specialist skills are:-

Rope Rescue
Animal Rescue
Bariatric Rescue
Heavy Rescue
Water Rescue
Confined Space Rescue
Urban Search and Rescue

Some rescues are a little more foxy than others. 🦊 White Watch made the news rescuing these 3 fox cubs who managed to get themselves stuck between two garages! We are overjoyed to see this update from the amazing team at Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital . Our little friends are doing brilliantly.

Remember the 3 cubs that were heroically rescued from between two brick walls by the fire service? Well look at them now!

They have all now recovered from their injuries and are doing very well. They will remain in our care until they are older and have all the necessary skills for release back into the wild (this will be in September).

If you are able to support their care, please consider donating here - https://www.justgiving.com/charity/leicestershirewildlifehospital

Thank you for your continued support.

Today Green and Blue Watch teamed up for some off station joint USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) training.

The day consisted of some shoring using paratech systems before breaching through a wall and proceeding to the secound floor of the building where a casualty was located in an internal courtyard. A line rescue system was quickly set up to lower an attendant down before brining the casualty back up to the secound floor and out through the breach.

A huge thank you for the continued support from AR Demolition and Richardson who continue to support us with off station training venues. Allowing us to experience different locations and more ‘real’ training scenarios.

On Monday 3rd November, Southern were the first in attendance to a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) on the M1. The incident involved two Heavy Goods Vehicles and one car. With both HGVs being well alight. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Fire Control took several calls from passing motorists.

It was a large and complex incident, with Appliances from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Western Station, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Lutterworth Station and Northampton in attendance, supported by water carriers from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Loughborough Station and Towcester.

Due to the size of the incident and the large amounts of smoke. The M1 was closed for several hours while the crews extinguished the fire and repairs could be made to the carriageways. The incident was also attended by Leicestershire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service, National Highways along with Crouch Recovery and the Environmental Agency. A true demonstration of exceptional interagency working.

Thankfully there were no reported injuries.

We would like to thank the public for their patience and all of the agencies involved for their support.
