A big thank you to Fermanagh Lakelands for shining a light on Enniskillen Castle and its rich story, from the Medieval Maguire era through the Plantation and into its military past. 🌿

Did you know…
• Enniskillen Castle was the very first building on the island
• Medieval Fermanagh was ruled by the Maguire chieftains for over 300 years
• Their stronghold here was established in the early 1400s by Hugh ‘the Hospitable’ Maguire
• • The Castle was likely built in the 1420s and first recorded in the Annals of Ulster in 1439, the key source of information we have on Medieval Ireland

Today, the museums explore far more than the Castle itself. Displays also cover:
• The archaeology of Fermanagh
• The Medieval pilgrimage route to Lough Derg along the waterways and shores of Lough Erne
• The art of the area
• Farming traditions, country life and customs
• The industrial story of the region
• The story of The Inniskillings Museum

A place where the whole story of Fermanagh unfolds, from prehistory to today.
