In June 2026, we will be holding a Subletting Amnesty, offering tenants who are illegally subletting their homes the chance to come forward without facing penalties.🏠
Under the scheme, tenants who voluntarily return their keys and end their tenancy will not face further action. However, the amnesty does not apply to cases already identified by our Tenancy team and are awaiting action.
Tenants wishing to take part are encouraged to:
- contact the council by emailing [email protected] or calling 01992 564716 to speak with a member of the team.
- They will then need to visit the Civic Offices, hand in their keys, and sign a Notice to Quit (NTQ) form. The form can also be emailed, if required.
Tenants found committing tenancy fraud outside the amnesty month could face serious consequences, including eviction, fines of up to £50,000, or even imprisonment for up to two years.
