Do your children know more about social media than you do?

I’ve just shared a new blog post with some of the resources, websites and advice that helped me navigate the world of smartphones, social media and online safety as a parent.

Including links to two brilliant organisations every parent should know about.

One of the biggest worries parents have before Reception is whether their child is “ready”.

Usually that means questions like:

Can they read?

Can they write?

Can they count to 10?

But after years of working with young children, I know that school readiness is much more about confidence, independence and emotional readiness.

Things like putting on a coat, asking for help, coping when something doesn’t go to plan and feeling secure saying goodbye can make a huge difference to those first few weeks.

That’s exactly why I created my free Starting School Guide.

If you’ve got a child starting Reception this September and you’d like a copy, comment SCHOOL below and I’ll send you the link.

“BUT MUM!!! …. EVERYONE else has one…”

If your child is heading to secondary school this year, you’ve probably heard those words more than once already.

For many families, a first mobile phone feels like a practical necessity once children start travelling independently and spending more time away from home.

But, and it’s a big but …

Smart phones don’t come with built-in common sense - or stabilisers 💕

They don’t teach kindness.

They don’t explain digital footprints, online friendships or how to handle difficult situations when Mum and Dad aren’t standing beside you.

When my daughter got her first phone 11 years ago, I wrote her a manifesto about the things I hoped she’d remember once she had the whole world in her pocket.

I’ve just updated it for 2026 and turned it into a printable PDF to share with other parents worrying about keeping their teenagers safe.

Because Their First Phone Doesn’t Come With Stabilisers

It’s not about screen time limits or endless rules.

It’s about trust, responsibility, good judgement and staying safe in a world that’s very different from the one we grew up in.

Because eventually our children have to make their own decisions.

The best protection isn’t built into the phone. It’s what they carry with them that YOU taught them.

The flowers are blooming.

The book is open.

And I’m finally remembering how to relax again.

A little bit of Louie Love on a hot Saturday afternoon.

Sunshine, good company and a slower pace for a few hours. Sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed. 💕
