Please may we remind everyone that using motorised vehicles on private property without permission is against the law. We report all instances to the police. We welcome walkers, horse riders and responsible mountain bikers. Motor bikes are especially disruptive to ground-nesting birds. It is also a concern to people who wish to walk safely with their families and dogs. We thank the members of the public who continue to help us to highlight this problem. No cars or motorbikes are permitted on tracks on Novar Estate without permission.

For those of you who follow the water levels on the SEPA website, there seems to be a fault this morning. The Alness river level has remained steady and we look forward to the fresh water forecast.

Ronald Munro Ferguson, descendant of Lieutenant Hector Munro “Golspie Company” Government Militia and Margaret Openshaw, descendant of Ensign George Mackenzie, Cromartie’s Regiment, Jacobite Army laid wreaths at the Memorial Dedication Ceremony for the Battle of Littleferry. Three generations of the Munro Ferguson family witnessed this special occasion. Retired Major General Patrick Marriott has done so much to bring the history of Littleferry to life. Sadly he was unable to attend the ceremony. His speech was delivered by his wife, Henrietta. It is worth reading. We share it here.

For people who can't attend Tomorrow, we will be providing a Live Stream of the event on this page. More information will be provided shortly.

This is all that remains of Clayside, the childhood home of Hector Munro and his parents Hugh and Isobel. From here he set out on a military career that started with fighting in the Golspie Company of the Earl of Sutherland’s Militia on the side of government forces and culminated as a General and Colonel of the Black Watch (42nd Regiment of Foot). Hector inherited from his Uncle and created Novar much as we know it today. We were privileged to visit Clayside recently and are excited about the plans to commemorate the Battle of Littleferry.
