Next week is Drowning Prevention week, and the time to share vital water safety messages that could save lives.
Whether you're heading to the coast, a river, reservoir, lake, or canal, remember that the water can be colder, deeper, and more dangerous than it looks.
If you find yourself struggling in the water:
- Float on your back.
- Tilt your head back with ears submerged
- Relax and control your breathing
- Move your hands gently to stay afloat
- Call for help or swim to safety when able
If you see someone in difficulty:
- Don't enter the water
- Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard
- Throw something that floats and encourage them to float
A few simple actions can make all the difference and prevent tragedy.
