On Saturday 29th August, PC Jo Moss was delighted to attend Owambe Fest, a vibrant celebration of Nigerian culture. Owambe is a Yoruba term for a large, colourful Nigerian party, and the event certainly lived up to its reputation with traditional food, music, games, and an array of fabulous outfits.

It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate culture, community, and heritage in such a joyful atmosphere.

A special mention goes to Jemimah Adeosun, a young entrepreneur who was proudly showcasing and selling her book, My Fable Stories. Written when she was just 10 years old, the book features stories about animals and people while promoting important values such as love, patience, hard work, honesty, and self-control. Jemimah hopes her book will inspire other children to write and learn more about the world around them.

Well done, Jemimah, on your fantastic achievement, and thank you to everyone involved in making Owambe Fest such a memorable event.

Working Together to Challenge Bullying and Hate Crime

On 26 August 2026, PC Jo Moss met with a Nigerian Youth Group at Plymouth Central Library to discuss bullying, hate crime, and the importance of respect and inclusion.

The session included some really positive and thoughtful discussions about how it feels to be targeted by bullying, how to respond safely, and why some people choose to bully others, although we all agreed that bullying is never acceptable.

We also explored protected characteristics and how prejudice can impact individuals and communities. To bring the discussion to life, the adults acted out a scenario for the young people to reflect on and discuss afterwards, encouraging everyone to think about the impact of their words and actions.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated. It was wonderful to see such respectful listening, thoughtful contributions, and a genuine willingness to learn from one another.

Together, we can help create safer, kinder, and more inclusive communities for everyone. 💙

A huge thank you to the Plymouth Hindu Society for inviting me to their prayer service on Sunday 23 August.

I was made to feel incredibly welcome and enjoyed learning more about Hindu worship, including the ritual of pouring milk and water over the Shiva Lingam. The prayers and music were joyful and uplifting, and it was wonderful to finish the service sharing food and conversation with members of the community.

Thank you for your kindness, hospitality, and for giving me the opportunity to learn more about your faith and culture. 🙏

On Saturday PC Jo Moss had the pleasure of attending the Nigerian Cultural Festival 2.0 in Devonport.

The event attracted a fantastic turnout, bringing together people who live and work in Plymouth, alongside visitors who had travelled especially for the occasion from Nigeria and beyond.

Throughout the day and evening, attendees enjoyed a vibrant celebration of Nigerian culture, including traditional dress, captivating performances, music, and the opportunity to sample authentic African cuisine. The atmosphere was filled with energy, joy, and a strong sense of community.

It was wonderful to see people from diverse backgrounds coming together to celebrate culture, heritage, and inclusion. The warmth and hospitality shown by the organisers and participants ensured that everyone felt welcomed and valued.

Thank you to everyone involved in making the festival such a memorable and successful event. I look forward to seeing it continue to grow in the years ahead.
