From disco dancing to creative writing, this week’s blog takes us from one lively school event to a quieter classroom, where the power of words takes centre stage!

Mr Bishop catches up with children at last Friday’s school disco before joining a Year 4 writing class to discover what they have been learning. From writing about famous women and exploring nonsense poetry to taking part in the 500 Words competition, there is plenty to inspire their imaginations.

He is also joined by Mr Sills to explore why reading and writing are such important skills, helping children to express themselves, develop their ideas and build strong foundations for the future.

🏐 A fantastic lunchtime netball squad today for our Year 5 children, following their first win against Broadclyst on Monday! 🎉 It was great to see everyone back on court, building on their success, developing their skills and working together as a team. Lunchtime squad sessions are a brilliant opportunity to improve fitness, build confidence, develop communication and teamwork, and show commitment, resilience and sportsmanship — all while having fun! Well done, Year 5! Keep up the great work! 💪👏

🏰✨ Last week, year 5 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Buckland Abbey, where they stepped back in time and explored the fascinating history of this wonderful historic building. They had the opportunity to tour the beautiful grounds and explore inside the abbey, bringing history to life as they discovered what life was like in the past. The children also had great fun trying on clothes from the period and playing traditional games, making it a truly memorable and hands-on learning experience! A wonderful day full of exploration, discovery and fun! 🏰🎭😊

This week’s Headteacher blog

This week, Mr Bishop visits Yeo Valley to catch up with the children on the Eco Committee and finds out what they are doing to care for the environment and make a positive difference in their school community.

He also meets a member of the Netball Club to hear about their plans for the term and their hopes for the upcoming inter-school competitions.

From taking responsibility for the environment to developing sporting skills, teamwork and confidence, it’s great to see the range of opportunities children can enjoy through clubs and activities beyond the classroom.

Have you ever discovered a brilliant book because someone recommended it to you?

Our junior librarians love sharing their favourite reads, swapping book recommendations and helping their classmates find stories they might never have picked up themselves.

From stories that make you laugh to adventures you can't put down, there's something special about hearing another child's excitement about a book and wanting to read it for yourself!

Our junior librarians help make our school libraries welcoming places where children can explore new authors, discover different stories and share their growing love of reading.

As part of the National Year of Reading, we're celebrating all the little moments that help children become readers — including that all-important recommendation from a friend.

October Half-Term Fun at Holiday Club!

Looking for exciting activities to keep the children entertained this October half-term? Cornerstone Holiday Club has a fantastic week planned, packed with adventures, creativity and plenty of fun!
From animal encounters and karate to arts and crafts, cooking, climbing and a silent disco, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The highlight of the week will be our full-day trip to Plymouth Aquarium on Friday 30th October, giving children the chance to explore the underwater world and discover amazing marine life.

What a brilliant start the first group have had at Forest School! 🍃The children have loved exploring the woodland and trying new activities. From testing their balance on the slackline and soaring on the rope swing to using a mushroom clamp and palm drill to make their own conkers, every session has been filled with excitement and achievement. 🍁 They were especially proud of threading their conkers onto shoelaces and creating their own traditional game to take part in together.🏕️🌳
