There’s plenty of calm space in the glorious garden, beautiful year-round with rhododendrons, magnolias, champion trees and formal lawns. You can explore winding paths, climb an extinct volcano, discover an Iron Age hill fort and take in distant views towards Dartmoor. More family home than grand mansion, the relaxed house also holds the National Trust’s largest costume collection, with selected i

tems displayed in our exhibitions. Follow us to hear more.

Pinocchio comes to life at Killerton. 😍

Thursday 30 July, 7.00pm

Illyria celebrates this magical coming-of-age tale with this a thrilling musical outdoor show. Childless toymaker Geppetto makes a wooden puppet – little realising the chaos he is about to unleash. The puppet yearns for adventure and runs away, but instead of excitement only finds glorious attractions containing hidden dangers. He returns home hoping to be showered with sympathy and learns his tribulations are just beginning. Running away hasn’t worked; lying won’t work; he must become a real boy to achieve the belonging he craves. Collodi’s classic has been translated into no fewer than 260 languages since it was first published in 1883. Illyria celebrates this magical coming-of-age tale in a thrilling musical outdoor show.

This is an outdoor production, so please bring a chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to dig into, and dress for the weather.

Assistance dogs only.

We’re excited to share the fabulous new information signs now in place at Elbury Wood, the newly planted woodland just across the railway from Cranbrook. 🌳 The space is fully open to the public and already a favourite with dog walkers and runners thanks to its smooth, looped stone track.

Rod, one of our brilliant ranger yard volunteers, has hand‑carved a series of wooden posts into the shapes of woodland animals. You’ll spot them dotted around the loop - a lovely surprise for visitors of all ages.

Elbury Wood is a beautiful place to stretch your legs, listen to the birds, and if you’re lucky, catch sight of the kestrel that often hovers overhead. Keep your eyes peeled!

Location of Elbury Wood, What3Words: croutons.easels.flooding
Coming from Cranbrook, it's just over Crannaford level crossing, off Crannaford Road/Elbury Road.
There is no parking at Elbury Wood.

Join The Lord Chamberlain's Men at Killerton this summer for Othello, one of the most captivating and powerful plays ever written.

Tuesday 21 July, 7.00pm

With a history stretching back to William Shakespeare’s original company, they present this joyous play as he first saw it – in the open air, with an all male cast and Elizabethan costumes, music and dance.

“I know my price, I am worth no worse a place.”

Othello, the Moor of Venice, a respected General in the Venetian army, promotes the young Cassio to be his Lieutenant over Iago, a soldier in his service. In doing so he unwittingly sparks Iago’s deep-seated hatred into terrifying life and sets in motion a horrendous spiral of vengeance and destruction that sweeps away everyone before it. As Iago weaves his web and seeks his revenge he poisons Othello against Desdemona, daughter of a Venetian nobleman he has recently and secretly wedded, and turns the world upside down until Othello becomes unmoored from reality with devastating consequences.

“Put out the light, and then put out the light.”

A story of deception, jealousy and a man that loved not wisely but too well – this stunning and heartbreakingly poignant play is one you won’t want to miss.

Bring a chair and a picnic and prepare to be rapt and transported. Book early to avoid missing out!

Join us for an evening of comic genius and laugh-out-loud chaos as The Three Inch Fools present an epic tale of Arthurian adventure and medieval mayhem. 🎭

King Arthur and the Holy Fail, Saturday 6 June, 7pm-9pm.

In a land of daring quests, dashing knights, and endless jousting, there lived a would-be hero - waiting in the wings - who went by the name of Arthur. But when Camelot is rocked to its core by a tragic - and frankly improbable - incident involving a large table of an undisclosed shape, Arthur is thrust into the quest of a lifetime. Will he bravely battle through blistering cold and scorching fire to save his beloved realm, or will he crumble as fate refuses to cooperate? Destiny awaits, chivalry calls, and the quest to end all quests begins. Saddle up - things are about to get legendary.

Bring your own cushions, and camping chairs and join us for this most epic of quests. Come prepared for the weather - the performance will continue come rain come shine!

Assistance dogs only

There’s something rather magical about stained glass, don’t you think? 🤩

We recently shared about the next chapter of the ‘Our Killerton’ display, and the workshops run with commissioned artist Patricia Dixon.

In this video, Patricia and Katarina, Collections & House Manager, give more insight into the process behind the workshops and the final exhibition - and you can hear from one of the participants too ✨

Patricia’s final piece will be unveiled in the Study on Saturday 4 July.

There’s an abundance of woodland flowers in Ashclyst Forest. 🌳 The presence of various plant species indicates that a site has been largely undisturbed woodland for a considerable length of time. These are known as ‘indicator species’. Ranger Steve, shows us some of ancient woodland indicator species he has spotted in the forest.
