Today, on , we're celebrating the coast, the wildlife that calls it home, and the people helping protect it for future generations.

The National Trust looks after nearly 900 miles of cliffs, beaches, dunes, islands and headlands. That's more than 10% of the coastline across England, Wales and Northern Ireland

The 250-year old Visakhapatnam cabinet is back at Kingston Lacy following a year of conservation and cleaning. And we've found a secret drawer! (There wasn't anything inside it, but it was still exciting to find) 😆

The 18th-century cabinet was created in the Indian port city of Visakhapatnam and is richly decorated with ivory inlay, engraved and filled with jet-black lacquer.

The cleaning has revealed vivid details from delicate flowers to dramatic clawed feet. One of the claws was missing, so this has been recreated using silicone rubber, more commonly used to make prosthetics in the film industry.

Visit Kingston Lacy, near Wimborne in Dorset to see the cabinet in all its glory and find out more about its history.

Have you ever seen the giant mid-century murals in the Nave Gallery at Buckland Abbey (slide 1)? They were painted by Roland Pym in 1951, using the 'Armada Maps' as inspiration. Now for the first time, the original 400-year old Armada Maps are on display at Buckland Abbey.

In 1588, seafarer Sir Francis Drake (who lived at Buckland Abbey) lead the English naval fleet out of Plymouth to confront the advancing Spanish Armada in the English Channel. The following battle was captured in painstaking detail in the 'Armada Maps', drawn by unknown Elizabethan artists.

These historic maps have now returned to Buckland, and are on display next to the Pym Murals so you can compare the two side by side. This is only the second time that the Armada Maps have been on public display. 75 years ago when the maps were leant to Roland Pym their significance was not fully understood, but they're now considered a national treasure.

Visit Buckland Abbey between 6 June and 31 July to see the Armada Maps and the Pym Mural side by side, and learn more about Plymouth's nationally significant naval history.

A quick round of applause for our volunteers this . 👏

They're the people opening gates, sharing stories, cleaning beaches, helping visitors and somehow always knowing where the toilets are.

We couldn't do it without you.

Two million people. One brilliant shared moment.

Great Big Green Week (6 to 14 June) is almost here, and it is the UK’s only mass moment for nature and climate. Events are going live across the country: litter picks, repair cafés, nature walks, community meals and more.

There is still time to get involved. Find an event near you, add your own, or tell someone else about it. Together, we are showing what is possible when communities come together for good.

Our favourite chalk giant is getting a glow-up.

Over the next 2 weeks, 300 volunteers and staff will use 17 tonnes of chalk to re-chalk the Cerne Abbas Giant. This happens once every 10 years or so and will keep him looking fresh for the next decade.
