Ex Wyvern Survive
Officer cadets from Exeter and spent the weekend in Gidleigh woods, where they were taught the basics of Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) skills.
Training began with JUOs delivering a range of lessons on how to find and purify water, building shelters from natural materials and how to start a fire. The training then moved into sustainment, where OCdts learned how to harvest pheasants and chickens with respect, accompanied by a demonstration on deer management and butchery.
OCdts then put their new skills to the test, spending the night in their self-made dens without food, sleeping bags and minimal water - working through the night to keep their fires alive. The exercise ended with a 6km navigation challenge , designed to simulate the fatigue of the Escape phase of training. The weekend was a success all around with Officer Cadets learning new skills.
