Waste crime costs the English economy an estimated £1 billion every year – yet only around 27% of incidents are reported.

That means serious, large scale and hazardous waste crimes can go unchallenged, simply because they’re not reported.

Working with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Environment Agency we’re raising awareness of the true impact of waste crime. It is not a nuisance. It is a crime.

If you’ve seen large scale or repeated illegal waste dumping, you can speak up to Crimestoppers, 100% anonymously, via our website or by calling 0800 555 111.

In case you didn't catch the news yesterday, we've enlisted the help of the nation's beloved The Dogfather Graeme Hall for our latest campaign.

Over the next few months, we'll be issuing a series of videos to raise awareness about livestock attacks and sharing simple things you can do- as a dog owner or a member of the public- to help us reduce the number of animals harmed by dogs.

You can watch the ITV piece featuring Graeme alongside our very own Sergeant Julian Fry, here: https://www.itv.com/watch/news/dog-owners-to-face-unlimited-fines-as-attacks-on-livestock-continue-to-rise/b5gl109

We attended the Devon Federation of Young Farmers livestock show and sale in Matford on Wednesday last week.

The team used the opportunity to engage with the next generation of farmers; raising awareness around rural crime, and the importance of crime prevention and security measures when on farm and within the rural communities.

Attending events and supporting the farmers of all ages is key in our collective bid to tackle rural crime in what is currently a challenging time for the industry.

It was great to be included on the day and see the Young Farmers embrace their opportunities to showcase their talent and passion for farming.

As dog owners, The Rural Affairs Team completely understand how joyful it is to let our dogs run free and explore the world, it’s one of the best parts of seeing them happy.

But when it comes to being near livestock, keeping our dogs on a lead isn’t just a rule, it’s an act of kindness and responsibility.

Even the most gentle, well-trained dog can act unpredictably around sheep or other animals, and the consequences can be devastating for farmers and their livelihoods.

For us, it’s about respect- respect for the animals who might be pregnant, the land that farmers work hard to maintain for their animals welfare and of course the farmers.
We also want no harm to come to the beautiful dogs who rely on their owners to make responsible decisions for them.

We practice what we preach, and keeping our dogs on a lead in these areas gives us peace of mind, knowing everyone stays safe.

Let’s look out for each other and do our part. A simple lead can make all the difference.

Please share this message far and wide, as our two counties are going to have a busy summer!
