For example, this week we are holding a Learning at Lunchtime session run by the University of Exeter for staff to find out more about apprenticship options with them! We are also running an Application Skills session for our apprentices to aid them in securing permanent positions with us.

On the 12th of May, 6 apprentices from DCC attended the Local Government Association Apprentice of the Year Event!

This event takes place anually and is an exciting opportunity for apprentices to learn, network and showcase skills, expertise, and initiative. They worked in virtual teams to experience the opportunities, risks, and challenges involved in delivering successful local government services, in a developmental environment. At the end, one apprentice is named the Apprentice of the Year🥳

A massive well done to our apprentices who took this opportunity and did something that may have been out of your comort zone. Here are what a couple of our participants had to say about the day💯

Yesterday we were joined by Nicki Young, Careers Lead at Sidmouth College, for a Teacher Encounters session.

We shared insights into Local Government and the wide range of services Devon County Council provides, and introduced Nicki to some of our apprentices who began their journeys on the Step In programme and have progressed onto their Next Step Apprenticeships.

Together, we also developed a Year 7 lesson plan as part of the Equalex Pilot we’re proud to be involved in.

A fantastic session with plenty of great questions, ideas and insights from our apprentices, thank you to everyone involved!

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week! 🧠

Here at DCC, staff wellbeing is a priority. This is why we have many resources available to help support our staff. This includes things like our Employee Assistance Programme, which is an online and over the phone support service, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Staff are beginning to be trained as Mental Health First Aiders and are encouraged to become Wellbeing Champions, whose task is to ensure that mental health and wellbeing is a prominent topic within teams! These are only a few of the resources available 🌟

Today the team attended the first ever DCC Celebration event where members of staff were nominated by their colleagues in a range of categories!⭐️

The Apprenticeships and Early Careers team were finalists for the team contribution award, and Neve was a finalist in the Rising Star category😁

The awards were attended by our Chief Exec, Donna Manson, along with other members of SLT! Many of our colleagues in People and Culture and many apprentices, past apprentices and apprentice managers were also finalists🥳

What a great way to celebrate our staff’s achievements! Well done to everyone nominated.

✨ Administrative Professionals’ Day ✨

Today, we’re celebrating the vital role administrative professionals play across our organisation. In this case study, Mason, a former Business Administration apprentice at DCC, shares what he enjoyed most about his apprenticeship and how it’s supported his career development. A brilliant example of how strong admin foundations create meaningful career pathways 👏

Today is National Tea Day! To celebrate, the team decided to have a go at a Tea themed challenge on their lunch breaks ☕ The trick is to dunk your biscuit in the tea for the longest amount of time without your biscuit breaking in half 😋

And Beth came out victorious! 🥇
