Courtroom Clean-Out… and no, it’s not a new TV series!

We’ve been doing a bit of a tidy-up at Exeter Crown Court and let’s just say, some of you have been very enthusiastic about bringing “extras” along for the day.
Among the items handed in / seized were:
• 8 knives
• Various prohibited drugs
• A selection of drug paraphernalia

We appreciate wanting to be prepared for every eventuality, but we can assure you that you won’t be needing any of these items in the court house and, actually, attempting to bring them into a court building could land you in a lot of trouble.

If you’re unsure what is and isn’t allowed, please don’t guess. Government guidelines are available to read, here: https://orlo.uk/entering-court_Mq1uL

Let’s keep everyone safe and save the surprises for birthdays, not security checks 👍

With the really good weather that spring has brought us and with Summer around the corner, this is the perfect time to go out and enjoy a ride on a motor bike. Whether you are beginner or a experienced rider, safety is the upmost importance. Unfortunately, there has been an increase of Thefts and criminal damage towards Motor bikes, more specifically Mopeds/scooters. We at Devon and Cornwall police, strongly recommend that you increase the prevention of your motor bike from being stolen. It is worth spending the extra bit on improving or adding extra security.

You should consider the following ideas:

* Locking you vehicle to a immovable object - Lamp posts, secure fencing, or something that is bolted to the ground, to prevent the lifting of a light vehicle.
* Improving the chain and locks - to make it more difficult.
* Adding extra locking device's - Disc lock.
* A cover that covers the whole bike - so it doesn't catch any unwanted attention.
* Parking under lighting or well lighten up area.
* Adding CCTV - increasing the prevention, capturing any suspicious activity.
* GPS tag.

We hope the information above is useful and addresses to some degree the concerns that you have raised. If you have experienced this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://orlo.uk/YOqkG, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at https://orlo.uk/qOyWA .

Remember to Lock it up or rise loosing it.

Yesterday, we a held a free bike marking event at St Homas Baptist Church in Exeter.

We fitted QR coded stickers to bike frames and personalised the code to the owner of each bike before adding details to the national ‘Bike Register’ database.

We do this as a means to prevent the theft of pushbikes and to provide members of the public with a sense of security.

Once details are on the database, it is much easier for us to reunite recovered stolen bikes with their rightful owners.

We’ll be holding more of these events over the coming months – details will be shared here as soon as we have them.

LATEST NEWS | Flat issued with a full closure order following persistent anti-social behaviour.

On Friday 17 April 2026, a full closure order was granted by Exeter Magistrates Court and served at a property in Nichols Way, Exeter, making it an offence for any person to enter the address for a three-month period.

On the 20th January 2026 a partial Closure order was granted on the property after receiving repeated reports of noise disturbances and suspected drug use at the address. We also received reports that there were lots of people visiting the property at all hours of the day, which caused residents to feel worried and intimidated. This order had been breached numerous times and this information supplied by residents and police incidents were detailed at Exeter Magistrates

We hope that this closure order will restore peace and provide reassurance to people living and visiting Nichols Way, Exeter.
