Councillor Dan Wilson - Exmouth Halsdon Ward Independent Exmouth Town & East Devon District Councillor for Halsdon Ward

I’ll have a bet with you. I’ll bet you any money you like that the people or person responsible for taking down banners advertising Pride, are the same people that would bemoan the loss of freedom of speech in this country.

Anyone who doesn’t like Pride, doesn’t have to like it. If you choose to attend (I massively recommend it) you’ll have a great time but if you don’t want to, that’s cool too but no amount of kn****ad behaviour will stop it happening.

I have had a lot correspondence regarding the trouble on Exmouth sea front this week.

I caught the tail end of the drama on Tuesday night when I went down to check on the rubbish and bins and to be honest, it was embarrassing.

I think kids are easily vilified, so I hate to say it but clearly there’s a huge amount of kids coming down to the sea front from Exeter out of term time and some of them are causing a lot of trouble.

I don’t accept that this is the new norm and if we don’t act this situation could escalate.

So there are three actions I have taken.

1) I have emailed Exmouth Police to find out what the plan is for the rest of half term and the summer holidays. We need a strong police presence. Our police in Exmouth are badly resourced but resources must be found to accommodate our busy periods. If the Exmouth team are not being adequately supported, I will escalate it with the Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner

2) GWR’s Comms team are calling me on Monday to explain to me why they are shipping hundreds of unattended children to our town. There is a serious safeguarding issue here. If they do not have a plan to rectify this situation immediately, I will escalate this.

3) Our own ECC and Exeter High Schools were contacted by Exmouth Town Council earlier in the year about their high school kids coming down to the sea front out of term time and causing issues with anti social behaviour and littering. ETC also offered to send Councillors in to schools to talk to the kids about respecting our town and sea front. None of the schools even acknowledged the email. The issues we are facing here are happening outside of school time but the lack of interest and unwillingness to take any responsibility from the schools is not good enough. If they don’t respond to my emails on Monday, I will call them and if they won’t speak to me, I will escalate it to the academies and Trusts they are part of.

I am sure I will face criticism and push back from some of the public and some of these organisations but my priority is progress, not popularity.

I will report back but in the mean time, if you have any problems or concerns, please get in touch [email protected]

It’s important to get yourself a fun hobby, so at 10pm I like to come down to the sea front and take pictures of all the bins that have rubbish piled next to them. This is going to be carnage when the seagulls wake up.

We need bigger bins for the summer time and we need them asap. I’m on it.

Update: 12:08 27.05.26

EDDC have deployed the gardening team to help clear the rubbish from the sea front. I am awaiting confirmation that they’ll be deployed throughout the rest of half term. My thanks to Cllr Geoff Jung.

The Streetscene team that clear the rubbish are understaffed and there and many positions being advertised at the moment. If you know anyone looking for work, please let them know.

I’m biased because my beauts are in it but this is going to be smashing, get your tickets now!

Get yourself down the sea front this Sunday, Exmouth!

The Big Dip!! 🌊

Join us on Sunday 29th March at 10:30am, on the beach in front of Exmouth Beach Rescue Club, for a morning of sea swimming, hot drinks and a community catch up!

Whether you fancy a swim, a quick dip, or just coming along for the catch-up, everyone is welcome. We’ll also share an update on the South West Water legal action.

✨ A few things to remember:
The water will still be cold, so bring dry robes, towels, hot water bottles, gloves or hats to warm up afterwards.
And remember, neoprene absolutely does not make you a wimp. You do you!

We’ll bring the tea, coffee and refreshments ☕
Reusable cups welcome.

Fantastic to see Exmouth Town Hall come under the ownership of the Town Council. I’m sure most people assumed it was already but now we have bought it from EDDC it can and will be used for great community initiatives. A positive, exciting step forward for our town.

The change follows a long-standing ambition by Exmouth Town Council to take full ownership of the building and enhance its role as a public-facing…
