Yesterday (Saturday 30th May), members of Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Team attended the Water Safety on the bay event at Coldingham Bay alongside our partner agencies, helping to promote vital water safety messages to everyone enjoying the coast.

It was a fantastic day with plenty of opportunities to engage with members of the public, discuss how to stay safe around the water, and highlight the importance of being prepared before heading to the coast.

During the event, we also carried out a live exercise demonstration alongside RNLI Lifeguards Scotland, St Abbs Lifeboat and RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat. The exercise provided an excellent opportunity to showcase and practise our joint working capabilities, demonstrating how our teams work together during coastal and maritime incidents.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to all the agencies involved in making the day such a success. Working together, we can help ensure our coastline and inland waterways remain a safe place for everyone to enjoy.

☀️ With the Bank Holiday weekend ahead, we’re expecting some fantastic weather and warmer temperatures along the coast.

If you’re planning a trip to the seaside, please remember to stay safe and respect the sea. 🌊

✅ Check the tide times and weather forecast before heading out
✅ Keep a close eye on children and dogs near cliffs and the water
✅ Avoid inflatables being used offshore, especially in changing winds
✅ If you see someone in trouble, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

We’re also pleased to remind everyone that RNLI Lifeguards Scotland return to duty at Coldingham Bay from Saturday, operating daily between 10am and 6pm. 🏖️

Please swim between the red and yellow flags and speak to the lifeguards if you need any safety advice.
Have a safe and enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend!

🚨 Welcome to the Team 🚨

Everyone at Eyemouth Coastguard would like to give a warm welcome to our three newest team members — Kerr, Charlotte and Jordanna 👏

Over the past few months, they have completed numerous online training sessions followed by in-person training, learning all the skills needed for whatever incidents they may be called to attend.

After successfully completing their final in-person training on Sunday, they have officially gone online with the team from today.

Congratulations to all three of you — we look forward to working alongside you and wish you every success in your Coastguard careers! 🌊🚁⚓

Date: Sunday 10th May 2026
Time: 18:33hrs

This evening, Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked following reports of a dog stranded on rocks below the cliffs between Eyemouth and Coldingham.

The team made their way to the location, where members of the dog’s family had already managed to carefully make their way down to reach the dog. Our team deployed to assist them and safely es**rt all parties back up the cliff to a safe area.

Once everyone, including the dog, was safely back at the top, the team was stood down.

Thankfully, the dog was in good spirits, although a little tired and a few cuts and scrapes after the ordeal.

Remember If you see anyone in difficulty along the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

On Saturday evening the team were tasked to reports of two persons in difficulty just outside St Abbs Harbour after their kayak capsized.

St Abbs Lifeboat was also requested and quickly located and recovered both casualties along with their kayak, safely returning them to the boathouse.

Both casualties were checked over by the lifeboat doctor and, thankfully, neither required any further medical treatment. After being rewarmed and provided with dry clothing, all teams were stood down.

A great outcome and an excellent effort by everyone involved.

If you are heading out onto the water, please ensure you wear suitable safety equipment, check weather and sea conditions, and always carry a means of calling for help.

Over the last few weeks we’ve been a little quieter than usual on Facebook, but behind the scenes it’s been a busy period for the team here at Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Team.

Throughout April, the team attended 5 call-outs across the local area, involving a range of incidents including reports of paddle boarders, flares washed ashore, and suspicious items found afloat off Eyemouth. As always, we work closely with our emergency service partners and HM Coastguard operations room to ensure incidents are assessed safely and responded to appropriately.

Alongside operational call-outs, the team has continued regular training to keep skills sharp and maintain operational readiness. Recently, we’ve also been introducing and practising new rope rescue and recovery methods, helping us further develop our capabilities for challenging coastal rescues around the Eyemouth area.

Remember:
• If you see someone in trouble at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
• Never touch unidentified objects or suspicious items washed ashore — report them immediately.
Stay safe and enjoy the coast responsibly

🐾 Happy International Pet Day 🐾

Today we’re celebrating our four-legged companions who bring so much joy to our lives. Whether it’s a coastal walk, a cliff-top adventure, or a paddle along the shoreline, we know many of you love exploring the coast with your dogs as much as we do.
But while the coastline is a beautiful place to enjoy, it can also be unpredictable and dangerous — especially for curious pups. Here are a few simple ways to help keep your dogs safe:

🌊 Keep dogs on a lead near cliffs
Steep drops and loose edges can be hard to spot. Keeping your dog close prevents dangerous slips or falls.

🐕 Avoid cliff-edge ball games
Throwing toys near cliffs can encourage dogs to chase without awareness of the edge.

🪨 Watch for unstable ground
Cliff paths can crumble without warning. Stick to marked paths and keep a safe distance from edges.

🌬️ Be mindful of tides and waves
Incoming tides can quickly cut off access points, and strong waves can sweep dogs into the sea.

📣 Don’t attempt a rescue yourself
If your dog gets into trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard. Going after them can quickly put you in danger too.

Let’s make sure every adventure ends safely, with wagging tails and happy memories. 🐶💙
Stay safe and enjoy the coast responsibly!

📟 Attendance Requested 📟
Date: Wednesday 8th April 2026
Time: 14:04hrs

Eyemouth Coastguard were tasked to attend Eyemouth Beach today alongside RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat following a report of concern for a group of paddle boarders observed a considerable distance from shore without visible safety equipment.

On arrival, the first informant met our team and was able to clearly point out the individuals in question. After assessing the situation, we are pleased to report that the group were not in any immediate danger or in need of assistance. Our team provided relevant safety advice, and all parties were able to continue enjoying their day safely.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone taking part in water activities of the importance of being properly prepared:
• Always wear appropriate buoyancy aids or personal flotation devices
• Carry a means of calling for help, such as a waterproof mobile phone or VHF radio
• Check weather and tide conditions before heading out
• Let someone know your plans and expected return time

Finally, a big thank you to the first informant for doing exactly the right thing by calling 999 and reporting their concerns. It is always better to raise the alarm early — your actions help us ensure everyone stays safe along our coastline.
Stay safe and enjoy the water responsibly

HM Coastguard is ready for a busy summer 🚁

15 minutes is all it takes for AW189 helicopter crews to be airborne from the newly launched seasonal base at Carlisle Lake District Airport. This follows the successful launch of the seasonal base at Oban Airport earlier in March.

Operating from now until September, the bases add modern facilities and two additional search and rescue helicopters, helping crews respond faster in areas of highest demand. These peak demand areas have been identified based on search and rescue data, especially linked to outdoor leisure activity.

Chief Coastguard Paddy O’Callaghan said: “HM Coastguard is a modern frontline emergency service that continues to be equipped and ready to respond when it’s needed the most.

He added: “We’d encourage people to enjoy the summer safely, including when they are visiting the coast. However, experience tells us that things can sometimes go wrong. That’s why we urge the public to remain alert to coastal hazards like tidal cutoffs, cliff falls, and mud.

“If you or others are in trouble at sea or on the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
