Over the past few weeks there has been much discussion around the proposed National Inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation and Grooming Gangs. Alongside this of course is the Local Independent Inquiry that we were successful in getting OMBC to finally agree to.
The arguments have undoubtedly caused anxiety and stress for survivors and cast some doubt on the prospect of their voices being heard and them achieving justice. There seems to be a lack of clarity, information and engagement with Survivors. We have been here from the beginning of this process and have promised to do our best to ensure the survivors achieve their aims. So today we have written to the Home Secretary and the Chief Executive at OMBC for information, clarity and commitment to each arm of the Inquiries that the survivors have fought for.
Letters are attached for your information and we will publish the responses.

In July, FIP Councillors, working with the Shaw Independents, were successful having a motion agreed on introducing an Article 4 Direction which will give us more say over HMO's in the area.

The process has now started and The Council is seeking representations (comments) on introducing the Article 4 Direction from 6 October until 11.59pm on 16 November 2025.

Representations should be made online at https://bigoldhamconvo.oldham.gov.uk/

Alternatively, comments can be emailed to [email protected] or addressed to Strategic Planning and Information, Oldham Council, Spindles Shopping Centre, Oldham, OL1 1LF.

Pleased to show some of the work that we have instigated to brighten up the area. Starting with the refurbished Coat of Arms at The Failsworth Pole. A few more plaques to do and a general clean up will bring things back up to the standard we deserve in Failsworth.
We are dealing with or are in discussions regarding the other issues that blight our area but we are getting there!!

GREAT NEWS FOR LORD'S BROOK
At a District meeting on Monday attended by Councillors from both Failsworth wards and council officers from the Highways and Planning teams, we were informed that OMBC were not responsible for the area and that no planning or highways issues were breeched by the developer. Therefore the council were unable to address the points raised on the residents petition.
However, following on from residents concerns, Cllr Hindle as District Lead and Cllr Hobin, met with the developer Mr Sheridan and were delighted to share the news that although not wholly responsible for the present state of this trail, as a resident who regularly and freely likes to give back to our community, he has kindly agreed to restore this area which sits behind his latest development. He is in the process of planting 100's of new trees and will build a new bridge across the brook to replace the old broken one. This will give residents access to a long established but unfortunately previously unmaintained stretch of greenery and wildlife to enjoy.
We are grateful to Mr Anthony Sheridan for his generosity and understanding residents concerns and it shows , once again , how working together for our community can bring great results.

Great to see the Lord Lane hanging baskets back in bloom, thanks to District Lead Cllr Hindle.

!! ACTION on HMO's!!
At the next Full Council meeting (Wed 16th July) we will be submitting a motion, in conjunction with the Shaw & Crompton Independents to implement an Article 4 direction.
This means unlike previously, houses with six bedrooms or less will have to go through a planning application process to become a HMO and can be refused under certain circumstances. This finally gives residents a say in how and where HMO’s are established within the community.

The explosion of HMO’s is a massive concern for residents with these temporary lettings taking family homes off the maket.
Article 4 was blocked by the administration last year. However, after making our and our residents views clear on the subject, we are now able to take this forward. This means our area will no longer be an easy target for such developments.

We have managed to restore the planters and hanging baskets which are looking lovely and blooming in our ward. Having previously maintained most of our green spaces, we are aware of the Council decision now only maintaining patches that they own. We are currently in the process of arranging alternative maintenance on those too. With this and the w**d spraying also now in under way our ward is just that little bit more pleasant.
Continuing to work for Failsworth. ❤️💙🩵🩵

After contact from residents I have reported this monstrosity which has been placed on Stanhope Way.
Whilst recycling is important blighting a public highway isn’t the answer.
I have asked Council officers to clarify if the owners of the recycling company sought permission to place this here which is a requirement given it’s a public highway.

I will also be asking to have it removed.
Cheers

Neil Hindle

It was an absolute privilegeto accept an invitation and experience, as Deputy Mayor, the enthusiasm and talent of children from across the borough that had been given the opportunity to play with The Halle Orchestra in The Bridgewater Hall this afternoon. A great achivement and credit to Oldham Music Service, the teachers and parents for their commitment.
Music breaks down many barriers and can bring people from all walks of life together. Lets hope some of our students carry their passion forward, who knows, some may end up playing with Halle in the future!

The party putting Failsworth at its’ heart!

Following the successful election of Brian Hobin as Independent Councillor in May 2019, the idea of a Failsworth Independent party was born.

Our key aim is to gather together the people who have the best interests of Failsworth at heart. The mission is to achieve more Independent Councillors. Together they can work to ignite and build on the amazing community spirit there is within our great town. Many residents feel the town is overlooked by the Oldham Borough, we want to realise the aspirations and potential our forgotten town has.

Failsworth Independent has been formed to allow us to focus on a new way of working in local politics for Failsworth.

We are not aligned to any national parties and are not here to try and influence or debate national issues. Candidates to be from a range of backgrounds with a broad spectrum of different skills and opinions.
