Hindringham Hall A Tudor house surrounded by a 12th century moat provides a magical backdrop for the beautiful gardens of Hindringham Hall. There are 2 holiday cottages. N.B.

Situated just 4 miles from the North Norfolk Coast this private garden opens 2 days a week during the summer months. The mediaeval fishponds and moat are designated ancient monument whereas the Tudor Hall is grade 2*. Together they provide a backdrop for this magical garden. The house was bought in 1993 and the garden has been developed by the owners over that time gradually spreading out from the house. Initially there was no intention to "open" the gardens but after several successful N.G.S. open days, visitors were asking to see the garden at other times of the year. We hope you enjoy it. There are 2 detached holiday cottages within the grounds if you wish to prolong your visit- see website www.hindringhamhall.org

Last opportunity to visit the gardens before they close for the winter-
NGS- Sunday 18th October 10-4
Entrance £10 children free proceeds to charity
Light refreshments and plant sales
Lots of colour to see in the flower beds with Asters, Dahlias, Roses and Nerines but it is the Autumn leaves that feature at this time of year. Even the long Hosta beds add colour as their leaves turn from green to gold whilst they gracefully die down.

The dead heading of the roses has been very worthwhile and do look for Alistair Stella Gray which is flowering its socks off on the Pergola in the West lawn- best seen from the path in the Water Garden.

A very underrated plant is the Sempervivum. Here it is clinging to the sides of a concrete sun dial with no soil whatsoever. Totally neglected it continues to multiply its fleshy rosettes of leaves. Sempervivum comes from the latin botanical name meaning always green, this sempervivum is commonly called a "House leek" - it deserves better!!

Beautiful Blue Cedar- planted 20 years ago on the East lawn at Hindringham Hall.
What seemed like a long way from the Moat edge when planted as a small tree is now not such a distance!!!
Enjoy the view sitting out from the Coffee Shop across the Moat- not necessary to go round the gardens. Open when the gardens open Tuesday 1-5 and Wednesday 10-2

In the gravel between the Helianthemum and rose on the west Wall of the Hall are appearing the Sternbergia Lutea. Also known as the Winter Daffodil. Resembling a crocus rather than a daffodil it is also a member of the Amaryllis family. It enjoys its position of poor free draining soil and completely disappears after flowering.
