International E-Waste Day takes place on 14 October, and this year we're supporting The Great Cable Challenge. 🔌♻️

Have you got old charging cables, ear buds, chargers or other small electricals hiding in a drawer? Instead of throwing them away, recycle them.

These small items contain valuable materials that can be recovered and reused, but many end up in the bin or forgotten at home. If they contain batteries, they can also cause dangerous fires when disposed of incorrectly.

This International E-Waste Day, join The Great Cable Challenge, have a clear out, and recycle your unwanted cables and small electricals. Every cable recycled helps reduce waste and protect the environment. 🌍💚

If it’s come to the end of its life, FastTech – like anything else with a plug, battery or cable – can be recycled easily. Use the Recycle Your Electricals Locator to find out how: https://bit.ly/4aloefM

Got someone collecting your waste? Ask the question: “What’s your SEPA registration number?” If you’re paying someone to take your waste away, ask for their registration number and check it on the SEPA register. If they can’t provide one, or you can’t find them on the register, walk away. It only takes around 30 seconds to check. Find out more information about flytipping on the Community Litter Hub - https://www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org/community-litter-hub/prevent/preventing-waste/

Would you know what to do? 👀

Imagine coming across this on your way to work, while walking the dog, or during a family day out. 😔

What would you do?

🅰️ Ignore it
🅱️ Report it

✅ Correct answer: B – Report it!

Reporting fly-tipping helps us investigate incidents, take enforcement action where appropriate, and keep Falkirk clean for everyone.

When reporting, please:

📍 Tell us the exact location
📸 Add a photo if it's safe to do so
📝 Include as much information as possible

The quickest and easiest way to report fly-tipping is through Falkirk Council's online reporting form:

⚠️ Fly-tipping is a criminal offence. Those caught can face fines of up to £40,000 and, in serious cases, a prison sentence.

Together, we can help keep Falkirk clean, safe and welcoming for everyone. ♻️💚

Fly-tipping is waste in the wrong place - commonly seen along our beautiful rural routes and laybys. This is why checking who you're giving your waste to is incredibly important!

Sometimes, those who advertise cheap collections to pick up your bulky items 📺 are too good to be true and the waste ends up fly-tipped (and you may not even know!) 😱

The waste is still your responsibility, so even if you didn't dump it, YOU can still be fined! 👎😫

This is why doing your homework on who's taking your waste is incredibly important - double check they're SEPA registered and also make sure you trust them to take your items away ⚠️

You can check if your waste carrier is registered here: https://www2.sepa.org.uk/wastecarriers/
Be waste savvy and use Falkirk Council's bulky uplift service (linked below), donate or sell your bulky items if they're still in good condition

Let's stop fly-tipping together! 💪
