đź’› Celebrating 10 Years of Fostering With Care Visions đź’›

During this year's Foster Care Fortnight, we were delighted to come together at the Clayton Hotel Glasgow to celebrate six fostering households who have reached the incredible milestone of 10 years of fostering with Care Visions.

The afternoon was an opportunity to recognise the commitment, compassion and dedication shown by our carers, and the positive impact they have made in the lives of children and young people over the past decade.

You can take a look at our latest blog and gallery to see more highlights from the event celebrating this fantastic achievement:

A huge well done and thank you to all of our carers for their dedication and for the extraordinary difference they continue to make.

💛 What do you think makes someone feel ready to try something new, even if they’re unsure at first?

“I went for the first day, I wasn’t sure whether I’d go back for the second, but yeah, I did. And I’m so glad that I did.”

In this video, Carer - Nicola shares her personal journey into fostering with Care Visions, and how a long-standing familiarity with caring for children in her home life gradually led her to consider fostering more seriously.

Before fostering, Nicola worked with adults with disabilities, and her home was always full of family life, with nieces, nephews and children regularly around. Even so, she had natural doubts and questions about whether fostering would be the right fit for her.

She speaks honestly about those early uncertainties, and how attending the introduction sessions helped her feel more comfortable and relaxed as she learned more.

Nicola’s story is a reminder that feeling unsure at the beginning is completely normal, and that confidence often builds once you take that first step.

đź’ What are your thoughts - how do we best support children to feel understood, without reinforcing shame?

We’re sharing a moment from a recent Care Visions Talks Family Talk: Spotlight featuring Gabor Maté - offering a perspective that may prompt reflection for those supporting children and young people.

In this clip, he speaks about shame and the importance of moving away from the idea that something is “wrong” with a child.
Instead, he suggests that some behaviours may be understandable responses to difficult or overwhelming environments.

This is one perspective within a wider conversation, but for foster carers, parents and practitioners, it connects with a trauma-informed and relationship-based approach.

“Children want someone to be there today, tomorrow, the next day. Someone they can trust.” 💬

In her story, Gail shares the importance of being there, offering reassurance, routine, and trust, including for children experiencing short breaks.

It’s not always about big moments. Often, it’s about showing up, keeping things steady, and helping a child feel safe to be themselves.

What do you feel consistency look like in a child’s life?

In our latest blog, inspired by a powerful Care Visions Talks - Family Talk with Bruce Adamson, we explore children’s rights, child poverty, online safety, and why these conversations matter so much for those caring for children today.

At a time when recent documentaries have highlighted some of the more toxic corners of online spaces, including harmful influences and narratives within parts of the “manosphere”, it’s more important than ever to understand the environments young people are navigating.

This piece takes a thoughtful look at the wider context shaping their experiences, and how foster carers can play a vital role in offering guidance, stability, and understanding in a digital age 📱🤝
