Falmouth Fire Station not only responds to fires and incidents in Falmouth and around the county, we also have the privilege of crewing and maintaining the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Fire Boat.

Early this morning some of the fire boat crew (who are firefighters on every watch at the station) joined the RNLI for a joint exercise in Mounts Bay, Penzance.

Our team boarded the Fire Boat at its mooring on the marina in Falmouth and navigated to Penzance, in what ended up being rather choppy conditions!

The crew liaised with the RNLI teams and were part of a joint exercise this afternoon (more pics to follow).

Our boat is currently moored safely in Penzance for the night. Tomorrow more of the Falmouth Fire Station crew will be carrying on with the joint training event and then navigating their way home tomorrow evening.

We will post some more pics tomorrow when we have them, assuming the crew don’t drop their phones in the sea!!

We will give you a little showcase of our water rescue and boat firefighting capabilities in the coming weeks…..stay tuned!!

If you want to know more about what we do or have any questions about water safety, boat safety or fire safety, drop us a line!

To support International Drowning Prevention Day crews from Falmouth Fire Station attended the multi agency event on Gyllingvase Beach today.

The event was a great success and we had some great community engagement and met some amazing and interesting people from around the world.

The event also allowed us to highlight the dangers of lighting fires on beaches, especially in such hot and dry weather.

Thanks to all of you that attended and came to get involved and speak to the crew 🚒 🛟 🚑

To our local community,

It is with considerable regret that Falmouth Fire Station has made the difficult decision to step away from organising and delivering the annual Fireworks Display at Falmouth Cricket Club.

For almost 40 years, the event has been a much-loved part of the local calendar and, during that time, has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities and community causes. The event’s success has only ever been possible through the extraordinary commitment, professionalism, and dedication of the many volunteers, crews, supporters, and partner organisations who have contributed over the decades.

This decision has not been taken lightly.

However, the regulatory and legislative landscape surrounding large-scale public events has changed significantly in recent years. While these changes are both necessary and welcomed in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of attendees, they have also increased the complexity, responsibility, and operational requirements associated with delivering an event of this scale.

After careful consideration, it is the view of the crews involved that future events of this nature are now more appropriately managed by professional event organisers with the specialist expertise, infrastructure, and resources required to meet these obligations fully.

We fully appreciate that this news will come as a disappointment to many within the community who have supported and enjoyed the event over the years. We would therefore like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has attended, volunteered, sponsored, supported, or contributed to the event in any way throughout its long and proud history.

It is our sincere hope that a suitable alternative arrangement can be identified for the future, and we would wholeheartedly support any sustainable solution that allows this important community tradition to continue safely and successfully.

Emergency alerts will be sent to mobile phones at 5pm today - January 8 - as Storm Goretti hits Cornwall.

It will contain information on the red weather warning and how to stay safe.

Compatible mobile phones will make a loud siren-like sound even if they are set on silent. The sound and vibration will last for about 10 seconds.

Those experiencing domestic abuse with hidden phones could be put at risk if the device is discovered.

You can opt out in your phone’s settings to protect your safety.

iPhone - Search “Emergency Alerts” in settings → Turn off Severe & Emergency alerts

Android - Search “Emergency Alerts” in settings → Turn off Severe & Emergency alerts (and other threat categories if listed)
