𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 - 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟰 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

We were called again at 7.30am on Thursday to perform a medivac from a moored vessel to the awaiting ambulance at Malpas, for onward transport to Treliske Hospital.
Our volunteer crew launched the Atlantic 85 lifeboat 'Robina Nixon Chard' at 7.38am and headed up the River Fal, arriving on scene at 7.56am.
Following a successful transfer, the lifeboat was released from service by HM Coastguard at 8.18am, retuning to the lifeboat house by 8.45am......just in time for the crew to go to work!!!

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 - 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟱 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Our crews pagers sounded at 11.50pm last night, following reports of three persons in a small tender, struggling with the conditions and waving for help, 300m off of Fish Strand Quay.
The lifeboat 'Robina Nixon Chard' launched at midnight and was on scene in the Force 7 winds, within four minutes. Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked.
After searching for 25 minutes and with Falmouth Coastguard content that the persons were no longer in difficulty, the lifeboat was stood down, returning to the boathouse by 12.30am.
The service was recorded as a false alarm with good intent.

Over the past few weeks, Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team has been working closely alongside our colleagues at Falmouth Lifeboat

Our focus has been on developing our collective capability in mud rescue operations—an essential and often challenging aspect of coastal search and rescue in our area.

These sessions have included transiting and deploying from the Shannon class all-weather lifeboat, in addition, we have been trialling the use of the Atlantic 85 ILB (inshore lifeboat) to explore its potential role within mud rescue scenarios.

We'll now work on planning a 'live' mud rescue exercise, bringing together the skills, knowledge, and resources of both teams.

Working collaboratively not only strengthens our operational effectiveness, but also reinforces the strong working relationship between Coastguard and Lifeboat crews.

𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 - 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟳 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Our volunteer crew were afloat this morning on their fortnightly training exercise when Falmouth Coastguard tasked both boats, following reports of a person in the water north of King Harry Ferry on the River Fal.
Both boats made best speed to the location, with the inshore lifeboat arriving on scene first, where they found one person struggling to hold onto rocks and with a member of public giving assistance.
The casualty was recovered whilst both lifeboats stood by and was then escorted to the nearby pontoon, where our crew administered casualty care.
The casualty was cold and wet but otherwise well and was handed over to the care of the Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team.
Our crews returned to their exercise.

Staying safe in the water 🌊

Beaches are great place to relax and have some fun. The RNLI have a range of advice on how you can stay safe and enjoy all that a day at the beach has to offer.

Be aware of rip currents and what to do. If you get caught in a rip:
😫Don’t try to swim against it or you’ll get exhausted.
🧍‍♂️If you can stand, wade don’t swim.
🏊‍♂️If you can, swim parallel to the shore until free of the rip and then head for shore.
🙋‍♂️Always raise your hand and shout for help.

🍻Don’t drink and swim, enjoy alcohol after you’ve been in the water. Alcohol-related incidents often begin near, rather than in, water and people never intended to enter the water in the first place.

🥶Be mindful of cold water shock. Anything below 15°C is defined as cold water and the average UK sea temperature is 12°C. If you enter the water unexpectedly:
Take a minute - don’t try to swim immediately, the initial effects pass in less than a minute.

Relax and float on your back to catch your breath.

Keep calm - then call for help or swim for safety if able.

What a night that was.

Team members were tasked to four incidents near the peak of Storm Goretti.

Initially we were called at 1950 to a vessel with two persons on board in distress at Falmouth Haven. Falmouth Lifeboat was also tasked to assist.

Conditions on the pontoons were quite unfavourable with lines snapping and waves breaking over the top. Unable to be evacuated by boat. A risk assessment was carried out and safe system of work put in place, including full water intervention kit.

Coastguard Team members rescued two persons and two dogs from the vessel and recovered them to the safety of the Chain Locker on Custom House Quay.

While this was happening, we were tasked to a report of a person in the water at Premier Falmouth Marina

Team members split from the initial incident and took our other vehicle to this job.

An immediate search of the area was carried out, again alongside the lifeboat crew.

The missing male was quickly located on the stern of his vessel. He and another occupant were rescued by Coastguard Team members and bought to the safety of the marina office for rewarming and a cup of tea!

We were also tasked to support the Lifeboat crew in transferring two other casualties from other vessels to the shore that had gotten into difficulty during the night.

Eventually we stood down and returned home by around 2330.
