Councillor Dave Wiltshire

Councillor Dave Wiltshire The Fareham Independent Group was formed by a group of residents who were tired of Fareham Borough Council not listening to them.

The group has already succeeded in defeating the council on many issues on behalf of the community, including planning, but this exhausting work does not stop the council wasting your money on expensive court action. The Fareham Independent Group means that you can have a voice and an opportunity to determine Fareham’s future, but this requires everyone to participate. If you wait for other people

to do something, nothing will change. If the residents are in control of the council, we can decide the future of our town and where the money is spent. There will be no more favours between councillors, no more conflicts of interests or party politics, just working together for the common good. People can no longer say that there is no one to vote for, there is you, the people of Fareham. We believe that front-line council employees do a magnificent job and are hard-working, but the self-interest at councillor and executive level is failing all of us and the front line front-line staff. This was seen in the recent Hampshire County Council guilty finding against the Leader of Fareham Council for multiple breaches of the ‘Code of Conduct’ when processing grants for another councillor. This was our money that was being misused. Thankfully member of the group bravely took action to expose and then stop this. We are all tired of ‘mismanagement’ at all levels of government, we now have the opportunity to end it, by the residents taking back control of power and having a true independent democracy. The group has been inspired by Frome Town Council, where all 17 councillors are members of the Frome Independent Group and the residents have an independent council. Since Frome Independent Group took control of Frome it has won awards for being the ‘best place to live’. The Times stated that it was selected for it’s ‘attractive, creative and energetic community’.

What a day! ☀️

The sun was shining, and Portchester was buzzing with activity from Flo’s Market to the Portchester Gala.

The stalls were fantastic, and everywhere seemed busy with people enjoying everything on offer. There were some great voices performing at Flo’s Market, while the Gala had plenty to keep everyone entertained, including the Portchester Marching Band, dancers, a petting zoo, classic cars, and so much more.

A huge thank you to Portchester Community Association for all their hard work in organising such a fantastic event for our community.

It was great to see so many people supporting Flo’s Market too. 👌 Don’t forget, it takes place on the second Saturday of every month.

The turnout at the Gala was also amazing. I hope everyone who attended had a wonderful day and enjoyed all that was on offer! 🤞

If you’ve noticed that the recycling bins in the Precinct have been replaced with black bins, I’ve been informed that the clothing recycling bins in the Precinct car park, along with others across the borough, are now being serviced by Astra Recycling, a local recycling company.

There will be regular collections while they establish the required collection frequency. If the bins do happen to become full before the next scheduled collection, Astra is a local company and should be able to respond quickly once notified.

The bins will also be branded with Astra Recycling’s signage as soon as the weather allows for the stickers to be applied.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and generous donations. It’s great to see so many people helping to recycle and support good causes within our community. 👍♻️

This weekend is shaping up to be a busy one, and I’m sure we’ll all be keeping our fingers crossed for some great weather! 🤞☀️

There’s plenty going on in Portchester:

🎉 Portchester Gala at Portchester Castle from 11am–4pm.

🛍️ Flo’s Market in the precinct between 10am-3pm – don’t forget there’ll be live music and some fantastic stalls to browse! 👌

⚽ AFC Portchester Football Tournament taking place on Saturday and Sunday at Wicor Recreation Ground.

If you’re at a loose end and fancy getting out and about, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do this weekend. Whatever you’re up to, I hope you have a great time!

Great work, well done! 👏👍🧡

Great work, well done! 👏👍🧡

The paths at the public open space south of the Seafield Estate Portchester have now finally been cut back & tidied.

As a private estate,it is the site management company that is wholly responsible for the upkeep of the open space and its pathways.

Regular walkers in the area would have noticed, and have reported to me on many occasions, the serious degradation of the paths throughout the open space.

I first reported the issue to Abri back in September 2024,finally after 21 months of chasing,Abri have agreed to resurface the paths with Hoggin, a blended mix of gravel/clay/sand,when compacted it forms a firm smooth natural looking surface.

There will be obvious disruption when the works are carried out.
The date for this is yet to be confirmed.

Update on the Gents’ Public Toilets

Following the recent vandalism, I’m pleased to report that the gentlemen’s public toilets are now accessible again.

At present, only one cubicle is available for use while a specially manufactured replacement door is being sourced and fitted. A new main entrance door has also been ordered and will be installed in due course.

Whilst the repairs are ongoing, it is good to see that toilet facilities are once again available for residents and visitors.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these repairs are carried out.

Today, Cllr Chrissie Bainbridge and I spent some time walking around parts of Portchester Castle Ward.

It was a great opportunity for us to discuss local matters, and take a closer look at some of the issues affecting our community. We both feel that getting out and about regularly is one of the best ways to stay visible, approachable, and connected with residents, and it also helps us understand what’s happening across the ward.

We’re hoping to make these “walk and talks” a regular feature, aiming for at least once a week or more where possible (weather and diaries permitting!), so that we can continue to cover as much of the area as possible.

If you’re aware of any local issues, concerns, or areas that you feel need attention, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can send either of us a message or email, and we’ll always do our best to help and point you in the right direction.

It’s always a pleasure to be out in the community and speak with residents about the things that matter most to them.

Today we attended the D Day 82 Remembrance Service at St Marys Church Portchester.

The day started with the new Portchester Volunteer Marching Band on parade, setting the scene with a rousing and stirring performance.

An annual event to honour our local war veterans,a beautiful service which was very emotional for all in attendance.

The service was followed by tea and cakes and the chance to talk to the many veterans and thier families.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning;we will remember them.

So today I reported yet another incident of fly tipping on Skew Road car park.

I have asked Fareham Borough Council to see if this can be removed swiftly.

Sadly this continues to be an ongoing issue, but I will keep reporting it and pushing for action to help keep our area clean and tidy for residents
