But even on a hot day, the water can be dangerously cold, causing cold water shock in seconds.

Fifteen young people across the country have already lost their lives this summer.

With a red heatwave alert in place, some schools have closed to protect children and staff.

As families spend more time outdoors, please be extra careful near water.

With a red heat alert in place, we’re asking everyone to take extra care near rivers, lakes and canals.

The rivers, lakes and open bodies of water around Oxfordshire may be tempting to jump into during this heat wave, but it is still dangerous and not very warm!

If you or someone accidentally falls in or gets into trouble remember FLOAT.

Floating helps the chances of surviving entering water and gives you the chance to be saved.

Every year we and our partner agencies are called out to many incidents where people have gotten into difficulty after entering the water.

Drill night tonight was for FF Foster and FF Wann, who both completed part of the Development Programme on Working @ Height using the 13.5 ladder (this is our largest ladder we carry on top of the fire engine). Both performed to a very high standard and this element can now be signed off.

Did you know there are three different ways we train to pitch the 13.5 ladder?
• Standard Pitch
• Confined Pitch
• Reverse Pitch

Following this, we moved on to a water composite drill using an alternative water source pump — the Light Portable Pump (LPP) — along with running out multiple hoses.

🚒 Drill Night with a Competitive Edge!

Tonight’s drill training saw crews go head-to-head in a friendly RTC team competition 👏

Working through four areas of the 6 steps of an RTC, teams were scored on vehicle stabilisation, glass management, space creation and full access. Crews worked together to deliver safe, effective outcomes — all while racing against the clock.

RTC incidents are a vital part of our core firefighter skills, and training like this ensures we’re always ready when our communities need us most.
