πŸ† ANNUAL AWARDS EVENING πŸ†

Last Monday, our cadets and staff celebrated the successes of 2025 at our annual awards evening, at Benton Park School.

We were fortunate to have OC Wing, Wing Commander Yeadon, Dep OC Wing, Squadron Leader Kirby, and Sector 3 Commander, Squadron Leader Coates, in our presence, alongside both Wing and Sector Warrant Officers, WO Lister and Dowling respectively.

It was a fantastic evening and we are glad to finally close the 2025 chapter and continue the productive and successful 2026 we have had so far!

πŸ† TITLE DEFENDERS πŸ†

Cadets from 2168 (Yeadon) Squadron attended Central and East Yorkshire Wing's Competition Day, coming 1st in the STEM and Microbit competitions, defending our title for STEM from last year.

We have worked tremendously hard in all categories this year, not just our STEM ones, and it has paid off across the board. Well done to every cadet and staff member who have worked tirelessly to prepare our squadron for today; onwards and upwards to our Annual Awards Evening tomorrow...

πŸ–₯️ DEVELOPING CYBER SKILLS πŸ–₯️

2168 cadets have undertaken a 2 part course on Ethical Hacking, looking at all aspects of why white hat hacking is necessary for cyber security, and the process in which this is typically carried out.

The cadets took on a breadth of knowledge, starting from a very basic understanding of what a computer network is, to being able to identify vulnerabilities in a system/network. They then put it all to the test in a bespoke sandbox simulator, where they conducted a pe*******on test on a fictional network, with the main goal being to capture a hidden flag in the system.

Whilst the RAFAC cyber courses are fantastic for introducing these topics in a more theoretical setting, this course, ran by our resident cyber expert, Plt Off Eiles, had the cadets practically engaged in more advanced topics, hopefully giving the cadets a greater appreciation for cyber security roles.

πŸ’» GOLD CYBER SUCCESS πŸ›œ

Congratulations to Sgt Robinson, who successfully completed the Gold Cyber Course at RAF Cosford last week! πŸ’»πŸ”

Over the course, he developed advanced cyber security knowledge that you would learn in your Phase 2 Cyberspace Training, and practical skills alongside cadets from across the RAF Air Cadets. A fantastic achievement and one to be proud of - well done!

We look forward to the cyber delivery that Sgt Robinson can bring across the squadron and wider wing!

🎡 NORTH REGION MUSIC CAMP πŸ₯

A huge well done to Cdt Van Den Hof, who recently attended the North Region Music Camp!

Throughout the week, he had the opportunity to develop their musical skills across a variety of instruments, including drums, trombone and even bagpipes, alongside cadets from across the region. With musicians learning everything from brass and woodwind to percussion, strings and pipes, it was a fantastic experience for all involved.

We're proud to see our cadets taking advantage of opportunities like these and representing the squadron so well. πŸ‘

If any one of our cadets are interested in affordable lessons to learn an instrument, which may lead them to perform in the Squadron Band or join Wing Band, please feel free to come and chat with CI Lee who will be able to help you πŸ’ͺ

πŸ† INTER-SQUADRON ATHLETICS πŸ…

On Sunday, our fantastic cadets competed against 31 other squadrons in the wing, through a variety of track and field athletic events.

Although we didn't come home with a trophy this year, our cadets amassed quite a few medals across the board, which is something to be proud of! Well done all who represented 2168 in the wider wing πŸ’ͺ

This year, our staff were busy supporting the event too! We had WO Dealhoy on Discus Support, CI Lawrence-Denton on Long Jump Support, and APO Eiles as the Stadium Announcer!

It was a great day, full of pride and teamwork. We look forward to doing the same again in the upcoming Wing Competition Day
