We hope all our students and families have a fantastic half term break!

Enjoy a well-deserved rest and spend some quality time with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to The Abbey School on Monday 2nd November.

Important information for half term:

Phone lines: Our phone lines will be switched off from 2.30pm tomorrow (Friday 16th October) and will remain off until we return after the break.

If you are interested in developing your golf while studying a wide range of A Level and BTEC courses, Faversham Golf Academy is for you!

We run a fully funded golf programme in partnership with The Abbey School 6th Form.

Our 6th from consistently produces great grades across all subjects and our golf programme offers weekly PGA tuition, full membership at Faversham Golf Club and a development programme all built into your school timetable.

Our open evening is a great chance to meet the team and gain further information on what we offer.

WOW! WHAT AN EVENING AT THE ABBEY!

📚 YEAR 11 STEP UP EVENING 2026 🎓

What a fantastic turnout last night as we welcomed so many of our Year 11 students and their families for an evening dedicated to GCSE success!

This wasn't an evening of simply listening to advice: it was about getting involved, learning together and putting revision into practice!

Families took part in three interactive workshops across English, Maths and Science, working alongside our fantastic teachers to explore practical revision techniques and discover how best to support learning at home.

Every attending student also collected their Year 11 Revision Bundle, packed with over £30 worth of resources, including GCSE revision guides, study skills materials and planning tools to help them prepare for their November mock examinations and beyond.

A huge thank you to all the families who joined us, to our brilliant staff for delivering such valuable workshops and, of course, to our Year 11 students for embracing the opportunities ahead.

With mock examinations beginning on 9 November, the message is simple: small steps, consistent revision and working together can make a real difference.

Last Thursday, our Media students enjoyed an exciting trip to Harry Potter Studios!

Students explored the incredible sets, props and costumes behind the famous films and took part in an activity learning about camera work and how filming techniques help bring stories to life.

It was a fantastic opportunity to develop their Media knowledge, discover the magic behind the movies and gain inspiration for their own studies!

A huge thank you to all the staff members who supported the trip and helped make it such a fantastic experience for our students!

21 FOR 21 – EVERY STUDENT, £21. ONE INCREDIBLE CAUSE!

The Abbey School is proud to be supporting Charlie’s Promise, raising an incredible £21,000 in memory of Charlie Cosser, who tragically lost his life to knife crime aged just 17.

Charlie would have celebrated his 21st birthday on 28 October 2026, inspiring our 21 for 21 Challenge – bringing our school community together to make a difference.

From walking 21 kilometres and baking 21 cupcakes to reading 21 books, completing 21 acts of kindness or organising your own fundraising activity, there are so many ways to get involved!

A huge well done to Olivia in Year 8, who has already been taking on 21 challenges, and to Miss Bowen, our Pastoral Assistant, for supporting our 21 Book Challenge.

There are lots of exciting activities happening at The Abbey, including a Year 7 and 8 disco, Beat the Goalie, a sponsored 21km walk and our staff getting involved too!

AI companions are becoming increasingly popular with young people, offering conversations with virtual characters designed to feel like genuine friends.

Platforms such as Character.AI, Replika and Snapchat My AI can provide entertainment and creativity, but their human-like interactions can also create important risks.

Our latest guide explores:
• Emotional dependency
• Harmful or unreliable mental health advice

Another fantastic day for our Golf Academy last week as our students took on the challenging championship course at Cuddington Golf Club!

Since launching our programme less than a year ago, the number of students representing the Academy at competitions has trebled. This is a fantastic achievement and a real reflection of the team’s progress, growing confidence and the talent of our players.

There were some excellent scores across the team, with many players shooting below their handicap!

Students from Ospringe C of E Primary School and Selling Primary School joined musicians from The Abbey School on Friday 9 October for an inspiring Music Explorers Day delivered by Kent Music. The day focused on samba performance, with students rehearsing and performing a range of exciting rhythms on instruments including clarinets, saxophones, keyboards, guitars and percussion.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for young musicians to collaborate, develop their performance skills and experience making music as part of a larger ensemble. The final performances were full of energy and featured impressive timing, confident ensemble playing and creative solo improvisations.
We are grateful to Kent Music for leading such an engaging workshop and to all the students whose enthusiasm and commitment made the day such a memorable success.

Inspiring talk on immunology for Year 11 and 13 Science students!

Year 11 and 13 Science students welcomed Dr Elisabeth Curling from the School of Biosciences at the University of Kent for an engaging talk on her career in immunology and why the subject is so fascinating.

Dr Curling shared her research career, including work on immune suppression with monoclonal antibodies, preventing kidney transplant rejection at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and producing human interferon in fermenters at Kent. She also spoke about her enjoyment of teaching immunology and physiology to undergraduate students.

Students explored the immune system as the body’s ready army against pathogens, covering its historical discovery in ancient Athens, physical barriers, inflammation, and the coordinated roles of immune cells such as macrophages, T and B lymphocytes. Students learned about allergies, autoimmunity, vaccines and cutting-edge CAR-T cell therapies for cancer. Interactive elements included identifying cells and microorganisms, and a discussion of how laughter can even boost killer immune cells.

Dr Curling highlighted the value of a Biomedical Science degree, which opens doors to careers in the NHS, public health labs, clinical trials, pharmaceuticals, graduate medicine and research.

Students left inspired by the real-world applications of immunology and the opportunities available in the biosciences. The school is grateful to Dr Curling for her time and enthusiasm.
