Dorset Council : Consultation to 1st June 2026
Local Government Boundary Review for Dorset

A public consultation has been launched to help shape new council wards for Dorset Council. The Local Government Boundary Commission for England wants to hear people’s views on where they live, to help make sure that the new wards reflect the size and shape of local communities.

An electoral review is being carried out to make sure that each local councillor represents about the same number of electors, and that the wards they represent reflect community identities.

Following an earlier consultation with Dorset Council, the Commission concluded that Dorset Council needs 82 councillors to be able to operate effectively. This is the same number as it has now.

Launching the consultation on the electoral review of Dorset, Bev Smith, Chair of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, said:

"We are looking for your views, as local people, on how you think Dorset should be represented in wards that reflect local connections, communities and identities.

"By telling us about your community and the areas you identify with, you will help us to create appropriate, fair and meaningful boundaries.
"We would like to hear about where you go to meet people, to shop, attend school or sporting events, whether a road, park or river acts as a dividing feature between communities or as its hub, and which neighbourhoods have joint community initiatives.

"Hearing from local residents will give us important evidence to create our recommendations for a pattern of wards for Dorset that ensures every area is represented fairly in local elections."

The consultation on this stage of the electoral review of Dorset lasts for ten weeks and closes on 1 June 2026. The Commission will use local views to help draw up their proposals for new ward boundaries.

There will be a further round of consultation once the Commission has drawn up their proposals. This second stage of the public consultation is expected to start on 1 September 2026.

Polite Notice
We are pleased to inform residents that low height fencing is being installed around both the play area and gym on the recreation ground. Unfortunately the installation has been delayed due to the recent volume of rain making the grounds conditions not suitable to undertake the work. However, this should be completed ahead of the imminent school holidays and we hope the weather starts to improve so everyone can enjoy our wonderful open space.

The fence installation is starting today and we politely ask for your understanding that the facilities will be unavailable for use while the works are completed.

Residents are reminded that dogs are not allowed on the play area nor gym, and this will continue to apply once the fence is installed.

We thank you for your patience.

We have noticed resident concern on Social Media regarding occasional fires as part of the clear up process of the former car wash site adjacent to the crossroads.

We have liaised with Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue, who in turn have received confirmation from Dorset Council that the underground tanks were permanently decommissioned in 2001, so they will not pose a hazard to the site.

We hope this allays residents' concerns.

Service Implications Ferndown Waste Depot
Please be advised that the depot is experiencing many challenges since the effect of the weather conditions/flooding. They are still trying to catch up with scheduled rounds.

This, together with staff shortages and vehicle breakdowns has caused issues last week.

Any roads/rounds affected will be reported on our online system today. Residents reporting any problems will receive our automated response informing them that a re-collection will take place within 5 working days as per our policy.

We will be doing our best to catch up with any service disruptions this week.

Thank you for your continued understanding.
